I’m looking into getting an iPad primary for movie use during long travel. Right now, iPad Pro 11” with M1 chip is my first choice. I think the mini would be too small since it’s not much bigger than my phone and at the price point and size of the 12.9” I might as well get a Macbook. Anyway, the iPad Pro 11” with M1 was released in May 2021. Do you guys see another update of this model any time soon? I’m not familiar with the iPad release schedule. Most of my travel will be towards the end of 2021 and early 2022. So, I’m not trying to wait until Spring-2022 before I purchase. Also, I’m assuming this model probably will not go on holiday sale since it is fairly “new”. Correct?

I'm not aware of rumors of an update any time soon. As it shares the same M1 CPU as current M1 Macs. It likely won't get updated until they get updated. Which isn't rumored until 2022.

The Macs currently rumored for updates are the higher performance Intel models. Which will likely get a higher spec version of the M1 informally dubbed the M1X. Said CPU is likely to have a higher power consumption than the M1. Which would not work in an iPad.

I don’t expect an update but would also like to point out that even the entry level iPad makes a good movie machine.

If you mostly watch on planes or other travel situations you’ll probably listen with headphones anyway hence the additional speakers of the pro models aren’t used often.

Why not get an iPad air, seems like the perfect compromise reading your post. iPad Pro is pretty severe overkill just for watching some movies.

You know... I didn't even look into the iPad Air. I kind of forgot that it even existed. I'll take a look into it. Thank you.
