At Christmas 2021 I purchased a m1 12.9" iPad Pro and the magic keyboard. The Magic keyboard is great for emails but sucks for sketching. When you remove the iPad from the keyboard to sketch it's like holding a slippery eel. Also the cameras being raised above the surface are at risk of being damaged. So what protective case are there for the iPad Pro 12.9" 2021? I would like to use my iPad for what it does best.

Check out the Zugu case. It has multiple stand angles - including low ones - and they're rock solid.

I came close to buying Zugu case but ended up getting:
ESR Magnetic Case Compatible with iPad Pro 11 2021/2020/2018, Convenient Magnetic Attachment, Auto Sleep and Wake, Pencil 2 Support, Rebound Series, Black

Magnet is weaker than the official apple keyboard case I tried on my brother's iPad Pro. However I didn't want a keyboard cause it doesn't help with drawing just wanted a case to protect it from getting scratched. I'm satisfied. Zugu looks like a nice option as well.

Why don't you like it handheld? Hasn't been an issue for me.
It’s quite nice on my lap, or holding it across my forearm, whilst it’s propped up on its magnet - but as soon as you fold it flat it’s unstable, and doesn’t feel secure because the folded back bit wobbles around. It’s not the end of the world, but it’s a small limiting issue for my use case. It it magnetised when flat it would be a massive improvement in this respect.

Checked out the Zugu reviews on Amazon and looks interesting. Have you had issues with the pen not charging, usb power plug not fitting or the flap not staying open (flapping around)? Thanks

I have not and I use a number of different charge cables and a 90-degree USB-C adapter. This is my third - 10.5, 2018 12.9, and now 2021 12.9.

Thanks for the info. After searching the web. I have ordered the Zugu. I will put the Apple Magic aside and save it for typing. Sad that I wasted $$$ on something that actually is an obstacle to using the ipad for sketching.

Look at cases which are MK compatibles that way everything works together, and the MK excels at what it does without feeling like an obstacle. Having a nice cradle for the pencil is also handy because it will disconnect from the iPad while in a bag.

The good old fashioned Apple Folio. It's light and grippy, but protective enough for trips out of its Magic Keyboard dock. Magnets make everything so much easier now.

Thanks but I don’t need a keyboard, except for random e-mails and posts so I have been searching for a simple sketch case that protects the Ipad 12.9, it’s camera and pencil. Now having searched I have found lots of case suppliers with unknown brands on Amazon and google. There is no longer any truth in advertising so I will only be buying from a source that offers easy returns. The claims are over the top and local stores do not carry much of a selection for the 12.9” ipad.

my new ZUGU case came today and so far it’s very good. May not ever use the magic again. There was no comfortable way to sketch using the magic case.
