iPad iPad Pro 12.9" Apple Store Pick up?

This is the million dollar question. Haven’t heard anything about an in-store release.
I thought all of the US Apple stores are already open for pick-up. In Colorado, they are.
With iPhones, you can preorder ahead of the launch date and select "pick up." It seems like for this iPad they won't allow for that option until at least May 21.
Just make sure you order it first. The 2 apple stores by me are open but they will not let anyone in the store without an appointment first.
My guess is that once they deliver, after May 21st, you will see first come first serve stock show up. I rarely got an iPad on launch day, usually wihtin a few days after launch, the Apple Store would get a batch in, way before stated slipped delivery times if you ordered online. You just have to check every day.
That's my plan as well. Will start checking availability on the 21st for store availability, pick-up in-store during the weekend. 11" wifi+cellular won't be as popular so should be ok.
I would have gotten the 11 inch, if it had the same screen as the 12.9. That mini LED screen intrigues me. If the 11 had gotten it, it would have been as equally hard to get.
Was def. leaning 12.9 for the screen at first but portability won out. Expect the new Macbook Pro and hopefully a cheaper apple LED monitor to feature LED and will likely pick one of the two up this year if need a larger screen size.
Some stores don't allow walk-ins. Appointments only.
This is the biggest unknown right now. No one knows when you can pick these up in stores as this is the first launch from Apple that I'm aware of where you couldn't pre-order for a launch day pickup. The lack of that option implies to me that Apple isn't sending any stock to stores for launch day and instead will release stock to stores at some later point. That could be a day, week, month, or more after launch. I imagine stores will get display models for launch day though...
Since no stores in the US that I'm aware of allow walkup purchasing currently (you need a "shopping appointment") if Apple were to have launch day stock they'd have to open it up for ordering next week on Thursday or Friday... So I guess we'll see if the website changes then...
If they do offer in-store pickup soon I will return my iPad Pro and buy in store as that will save me over $150 in taxes!
