I just compared both models in store today, there really is no competition the 2nd gen 12.9 blows the 1 st gen 12.9 away in screen resolution, brightness, colours, sharpness, smoothness, everything is a step up! and I really never thought I would ever say that! the difference is massive, the first gen 12.9 screen looks very dull and dirty in comparison to the new model. played content on both models at the same time, Lower resolution on Ipad gen2, looked even better than higher resolution content on Gen 1..

I'm absolutely blown away with the new gen 2 Ipad;)

Resolution (and sharpness by extension) hasn't increased/improved but you're right on all other accounts.

I had my 12.9 Gen 1 with me, the picture on gen 2 had much more 3D effect, much more pop, sky lines seemed so much more natural, clouds, sunlight etc seemed more lifelike, incredible.

So much so, my gen1 12.9 is getting moved on fast.

Oh I'm certain it did (seeing the same improvement vs Ipad Air 2) but the resolution itself hasn't increased, just better display properties (contrast, gamut, etc.).

But that's not resolution.

I'm with you, my bad! its just a better display in general, everything seems better on the eye to me, much more lifelike "natural" which I like.
[doublepost=1497819572][/doublepost]When comparing resolution I was playing 720p on gen 2 on youtube against 1080p on gen 1 maxed out and the gen 2 720 display blew the gen1 away, hope this makes sense..

But that's not resolution.

I think the OP was referring to the better display as noted, with a wider color P3 color gamut and increased brightness. (The new 12.9 iPad has 600 Nits if brightness compared to 424 Nits of brightness.)

Well I wasn't planning to upgrade from my gen 1, but I wound up doing it anyway, and I am really happy with my decision. I've been really impressed with everything so far. I can't wait for iOS 11!

It's a solid update. The CPU & GPU improvements combined with the amazing display make the device feel so much more slick. I have noticed it is much faster on LTE here in Australia too.
