I thought the screens would be the same size, or the iPad Pro 12.9 slightly smaller. But I held it up to my MacBook Pro 13" and it's actually taller (in landscape) and almost the same width. Is it actually larger or is it just the aspect ratio is a bit different so it seems to be?
Either way I seem like there is more room on the iPad Pro screen for some reason. Using it as a mini desktop with a magic keyboard, I just feel like I am looking at a larger screen than on my laptop. So is it just an illusion? Or is the 13" MBP really just 13" diagonal on the actual laptop and the screen is actually smaller than that?

Yes, the iPad does have more surface area. The MacBook has a longer diagonal, but a narrower aspect ratio. To take a more extreme example, imagine a rectangle with 13 inch diagonal, but only 1 inch on the shorter side. Then imagine a rectangle with a 12 inch diagonal, but the shorter side is, say, 5 inches. The second rectangle will have a lot more surface area than the first.

I think mostly now my MacBook Pro will be more like a desktop and for syncing my music etc and file storage. (And a few programs I can't really duplicate on the iPad like dreamweaver) and majority of the time I will be using the iPad Pro as my portable. If I could find a good web design app (wysiwyg) like dreamweaver then I'd likely use the iPad 99% of the time. I can already easily manage my Ebay ads etc from the it.

According to tvcalculator.com the iPad Pro 12.9" has a total of 79.88 Square inch while the Macbook Pro 13 inch is only 79.52 Square inch.

Heres the comparison between Apple Device from smallest to biggest
1. iPhone 4S 3.5" (3:2) 1.94" x 2.91 = 5.64 Square inch
2. iPhone 5S 4" (16:9) 1.96" x 3.49 = 6.84 Square inch
3. iPhone 6 4.7"(16:9) 2.30" x 4.10"= 9.43 Square inch
4. iPhone 6 Plus 5.5" 2.70 x 4.79"= 12.93 Square inch
5. iPad Mini 7.9" (4:3) 4.74" x 6.32 = 29.96 Square inch
6. iPad Pro 9.7" (4:3) 5.82 x 7.76 = 45.18 Square inch
7. iPad Pro 10.5" (4:3) 6.30 x 8.4 = 52.92 Square inch
7. Macbook Air 11 (16:9) 5.69 x 10.11 = 57.53 Square inch
8. Macbook 12" (16:10) 6.36 x 10.16= 64.74 Square inch
9. Macbook 13.3" (16:10) 7.05 x 11.28 = 79.52 Square inch
10. iPad Pro 12.9" (4:3) 7.74 x 10.32= 79.88 Square inch
11. Macbook Pro 15" (16:10 ) 8.16 x 13.06 = 106.57 Square inch

I recommend the Display Wars website for such comparisons: http://www.displaywars.com/12,9-inch-4x3-vs-13,3-inch-16x10
