Was in the Apple Store today and compared all three late-model iPads. Frankly, there was very little noticeable difference in the perceived speed of the iPad Air and the iPad Pros. Maps opened just as fast and scrolled as easily on all three units.

In terms of screens, the iPad Pro screen was a smidgeon brighter than the other two, but you would be hard-pressed to notice the difference in day-to-day use. The iPad Pro 12.9 is certainly not worth nearly double the price of the iPad Air.

Those are just my observations, YMMV. Anyone else seen these new iPads? 🤔

They all have the same CPU speeds.

The hype surrounding the M1 was what had me thinking it was going to be 50% faster, as this article promised:

But what most remarkable, I thought, was the very difficult to discern difference between the mini LED screen and Pro 11/iPad Air. I had a second chance to see it Friday after picking up my repaired Pro Max. Neither my GF and I thought the differences were remarkable enough to stand out. 😏

Might want to watch this 😎😍🏎💨💨💨💨💨

Destroys the M1 MacBook Pro in most tasks.

Feels a lot faster to me, compared to my 3rd gen iPad, very noticeable, from safari, 120hz scrolling, typing, software updates, updated my iPad to 14.5.1, was blown away by how fast it updated compared to my 12 pro max 😎 the whole OS feels quicker as well.

Oh, it's a quantum leap over my iPad Air 2 as well. Glad to hear it’s faster than the 12 Pro Max. I wouldn’t mind having a Pro 12.9, of course, but since I will be packing that new mini-LED MBP 16, Pro Max, and sundry other gadgets, I think my travel bag will be bulging with too much weight. 😂

OK, I watched that video, and “destroyed” is a little strong here. The iPad Pro does a commendable job, only losing the multi-core test, but it was close in most instances, and in the file transfer test, it was not capable of transferring that entire folder. But, the video did convince me that I need to upgrade my iPad Air planned purchase to an 11-inch iPad Pro. 😁

My wife has the latest air 64 gb and I have the newest 11" pro 128...for the price difference ( $190 for me with discount) I'll take the promotion , extra speakers, more ram, faster processor, twice storage, face ID etc... I tried to go without promotion but after having it on my 10.5 pro, the air wouldn't cut it for me. My wife likes her air just fine... to each his or her own.

It lost the multi core test because the knob didn’t update it to 14.5.1, was running 14.5 🤦‍♂️😂
