Hi,
I recently bought the Apple lightning to usb 3 adapter, the one with the lightning power port; to use with my 1st gen iPad Pro, and my iPhone 7 plus.
When I first used it, with lightning power connected to the adapter, I could connect up my 64gb usb 3.0 flash drive, it showed in ‘files’ and I could copy files over etc. This worked with both the iPad and iPhone.
In the last few weeks I have been getting the ‘accessory requires too much power’ message, although the lightning power is connected, and I’m using the same flash drive as before. The only way I can get the iPad to recognise a flash drive is to use an old 8gb usb 2 drive. However, with this small a drive it continues to be recognised even when I disconnect the lightning power. Which makes me think it doesn’t need to draw any power at all.
This is leading me to wonder if the lightning adapter has developed a fault with the power input. Is there a way for me to check? It is the original Apple adapter, although I did not buy it directly from the Apple store, as the nearest store is 30-40 miles away.
i appreciate any advice on how to proceed, as I seem to have lost the functionality I had, and that I bought the adapter to facilitate In the first place.
Thanks
Duncan
