Hi, everyone.

Asking this on behalf of my cousin who I’m failing to have answers for, so I hope you’re able to help!

He’s got a 2017 iPad Pro 10.5, using it to run Zwift (virtual cycling app) and output to his TV via Lightning/HDMI adapter.

When his garage is completely dark, the iPad brightness can be turned all the way down and it barely loses any battery percentage.

However, when the door is open and there’s more light, the screen won’t dim as much and even with the iPad plugged in, the battery depletes. He’s also using the original iPad cable and iPad charger.

He has any auto-brightness and TrueTone settings disabled. I’ve also had him check the accessibility settings under magnifier but that seems fine.

So, couple of questions:

1. Why does auto brightness seem to be active despite the setting being off? This means he can’t reduce the brightness like he can when the garage is dark.

2. Why would the battery percentage deplete while it’s plugged in? Does the plug not provide enough amperage to run the screen/game/output?

Any help is appreciated

Thanks,
Ste.

If you have one around OP, try the 30W charger either from Apple or a third party. I have a third party multicharger and connect a USB-C to Lightning cable to it. 30W is probably the maximum these older iPads can take in at a time.

Thanks for the suggestions regarding power! Any idea about the brightness issue?
