I have an iPad pro that is a little less than 2 years old. Since it was new, it has only been stored in a smart folio keyboard. It has rarely left the home and has been generally used with caution (I am an extremely pedantic and thorough person).

The color on the back has changed to pink and the smart folio keyboard is wrinkled. Apple believes that it is normal wear and tear and nothing more and refuses to do anything about it. In my world, I think it is quite obvious that it is due to heat (probably during charging) that this has occurred. Am I completely wrong and should I accept Apple's argument?

I am happy to listen to your input.

The material of the smart folio was never that smart to begin with. Apart from tons of users having theirs frays at all different places we’ve also had reports of the keyboard key print rubbing of and plenty of these weren’t even flush on a flat surface to begin with.

If your warranty is up it’s time to use tour consumer law if you live in a country where it is available.

Doesn't look normal. My 2018 Smart Keyboard is still pretty smooth, though it started coming apart at the seams after 1.5 years of use. It definitely doesn't look anywhere near as wrinkled as yours.

In reality it looks even worse than the photos.

What do you guys say about the discoloring of the iPad?

Frankly, while I can see the problem with the folio, I can’t see anything untoward with the iPad itself...at least not from the pic that you have shared.

Like I said, maybe not the best photos.

Ok. Yes, I see it now. Interestingly, doesn’t it seem to be localised where one would normally hold the device?
The iPad is almost always in its folio. When I now and then hold it, it is with my left hand as I am right-handed. So it's the opposite side from where I hold it. :(

It’s probably due to a problem with the anodisation process. A similar issue is mentioned here -
https://www.finishing.com/24/59.shtml

Perspiration is also moderately acidic and that could be a factor if you hold the device there and the anodising wasn't sealed correctly.

The logic board is located in the centre of the iPad, if heat was the cause, from an internal source, I'd expect there to be some discolouration above the SoC, and there isn't any.

I think others have mentioned that the material Apple uses for their cases isn't that durable so I would put the issues with the case down to normal wear and tear.
