Greetings from Finland!

I bought the iPad Pro 11” at the end of last year and noticed that even when I turn the volume completely off, I can still hear audio coming from the left speaker in games/movies/etc. It is extremely quiet - you need to be in a quiet room or be close to the speaker to hear it. I sent the device for repair and got a replacement product. Well, now the left and right speakers have the same problem. On the first iPad, the left speaker was defective.

I asked others and everyone seems to have this problem. Also, my brother also bought the iPad Pro a few days ago – the same problem occurs on that. Maybe bad luck… or maybe the problem is bigger.

I've tried to google it, but can't find the discussion on this topic. One important factor is that the room should be deadly quiet, or if you place your ear very close to the speaker.

Does this issue cause a problem?

Are you serious? Just imagine,

"when I turn off the screen it keeps on with a very dim light"
would you responde: does this cause a problem?

It's the same case, no volume should be no volume. How does he know if it is a widespread problem if he does not ask? Could it affect to the battery?

For the OP, this evening i'll try with my ipad and will update.

For example at night, it is very quiet... you can hear the sound in games. The device costs from $ 800 to $ 1,900. I think the device should work without problems.

Sorry to hear that you are experiencing the issue, and yes, that IS an issue. If you are within the return window, I'd recommend returning it for a refund. There are a few of these type of issues that are "under the radar" that are being brushed off by others as "not actually a problem" and as a result won't get the attention that is needed in order for Apple to address it.

I've already logged this with Apple but may be worth others doing the same. My feel for this though is that it could be a hardware issue and affects them all. FWIW, I use my iPad in bed at night with the volume off and my wife can't hear it so I personally don't have an issue with it.

What problem does this cause?

It would only happen when you were playing something with the volume all the way down. If not playing anything it would be dead silent.

I must be missing something. "speaker gate" LOL!

What problem does this cause? Volume on mute playing sound, are you kidding me? How could anyone not think this was a problem?

Do I think it is "speaker gate"? No. It IS pretty annoying, however, and I don't like it. But to say it isn't a problem is nonsensical.

This is not necessarily a problem for you. For example, if someone tries to sleeps next to you and can hear the sounds of the game.

OK, how about it is not a problem for me. I have a 10.5 and 11" at home and if it is making sounds when on mute, it must be so faint that I can not hear it.

This is really not disturbing a lot of people here as their are only a few threads. This certainly does not warrant being at "gate" thing.

I don't know if this issue is a "gate" issue, but I DO know that every "gate" issue starts with one person starting a thread about an issue, only to have it immediately dismissed out of hand. ;)

I believe we are all guilty of this. This "horrible defect" has been reported by others and it gained little traction, I do not expect this one to do better.

Let them take it to Apple and they might just replace it.

Yeah - my 12.9 does this as well. I'm betting ALL Pros do this, but you have to really listen for it. I'm assuming it's a software vs. hardware issue. But, you know what happens when you assume......

If they don't get or agree with the GATE you are trying to get going, always say " the 800 to 1900 price tag, and it should work for that price" , statement,
and it makes sure everybody will agree with you :)

And dpn't forget the obligatory poll ;)

Sure, not a problem for you. But objectively, it is a problem because mute does not equal mute.

Again, I don’t think it’s a “gate”, but it is a problem. What would happen if you turned your car off but it kept running? A problem? What if you turned your stove off but it didn’t turn off? If off does not equal off, a problem exists.

I feel like your car not turning off problem would GREATLY exceed a problem like this. Good try!

I'm pretty sure that the text shouldn't be taken literally. If you buy an expensive luxury car that works perfectly, but every time you close the door you will hear "Hitler was really a good fellow". It is not a problem, because the car works otherwise perfectly?

Another stupid analogy.

Instead of complaining, do something and get it replaced. Hope the Apple store is very quiet so they can hear it and lets all hope that if they do hear it that it is not saying "Hitler was really a good fellow".

My luxury goods usually don’t talk positively about Austrian racists. In fact they don’t talk at all.

Software. 90% sure (i'm an expert at blindly guessing, you're welcome)

Not a serious issue probably, but they need to at least know it, so they can patch it.

Is it worthy of a 'gate' designation? Well....

Like others say, most people won't notice it. Good that you have, because under certain conditions, this would be not a lot of fun at quiet time.
