I have seen some reports of the Space Black color on MacBooks wearing off. Is this general problem?

Haven’t had any issues with this on my SB MBP, had it since December. To be fair, it doesn’t really ever leave my house. Can’t imagine that Apple would put out a product which has a faded color after a few months, but stranger things have happened!

I'm assuming you mean scratches becoming visible over time, specifically near the port? Yeah it's inevitable as the color up top is just a coat or two over the natural color.

Part of the reason I still stick with silver or as light as possible all these years later with apple products :)

Well here is what it looks like when you get a bit of the metal taken off of it - this somehow happened to me - was being super careful and this somehow happened :( - no idea how - thankfully no screen damage - just some cosmetic damage

The space black is really just a very slightly darker space gray. It doesn’t look black at all. I think it’ll hold up just fine.

my black mbp is my daily driver and its with me in the backpack daily. no case, no paint rubbing off. same for my launch day 13 incher...
You do realize your backpack has a padded sleeve built in. Not everyone is going to put their MacBook and iPads into such an expensive and protective bag. I also remember that tank of a case you were selling a while ago. No offense, but you’re not really the best person to be talking about durability.

No it won't rub off, but if you scratch it that will be more noticeable than aluminum...Honestly have not had any issues with Apple's color options that I didn't cause on my own (dropping, scratching, etc). It will hold up to normal wear and tear very well.

It won't rub off, but the matt black will probably become a little shinier over time in the places where your hands hold it.This is generally the same with silver, but there it is not so noticeable. You often see this effect on the palm rests of laptops.
