I have a iPad Pro 2nd Generation running iOS 14.4.2 and I am having issues with photo thumg previews. For photos in the gallery, I can see the previews but when I access my network drive, there are no thumg previews for images.

Does iOS not generate thumbnails for anything that is not inside the iPad storage?

I am looking at the same folder from two different apps. One is Procreate and other is the Files app. When I use procreate and goto insert file > browse to the network folder, I see no thumb previews but when I long press on an image and tap info, it shows the thumb along with other details. Now, when I goto the folder again by doing insert image from within procreate, I now see the thumb preview for the image I tapped info on.

But when I goto the Files app, no thumb preview for the same image. I have to do the long press > info again to make iOS regenerate the thumbnail.

Yeah, thumbnails are never generated whenever I plug in an external drive.
Even Apple‘s Files generates document, photo, and video thumbs on my iPP under iPadOS 14.4.2 on any external medium (FAT32, ExFAT, APFS) I connect via USB-C.

For network drives I rely on FileBrowser Professional and FileExplorer, which generate previews.
