iPad Pro 3 Greatest IOS device I’ve owned.

At first I was excited for this device but then as the rumors of the RAM difference started I became less excited but after I opened it up and have been sing and testing it it I’m amazed by everything. But this won’t replace your laptop if that’s what you’re used to, for me, it’s everything I need and more but I have to give absolute props to Apple for the Liquid Retina display getting rid of edge bleed and any corner shading I always had with iPads before, this to me s fantastic and means this will last for a good long time *knock on wood that I said that. lol

I Never needed USB transferring... but with USB-c I’m excited for all all the new updates and features that will come. I work in character design, concept art, photography, videography, and editing large HQ files. Despite being so darned expensive I am blown away by its quality over the gen 1 and 2.
Of course, everyone’s mileage may vary.

What makes it so great? I’m am seriously debating the 12.9, 11, and the MacBook Pro. I currently have the second gen 12.9 pro. Please help me to make a decision. Also did you get the keyboard case and the pencil?

Which iPad Pro did you have get ? 11" or 12.9" ?

I couldn’t agree more, I picked up the 12.9 to upgrade from a 4th generation and couldn’t be more pleased. I do however think I’m going to pick up the regular folio cover though as using the keyboard folio in bed is kind of a pita. Idk who at apple thought it was a good idea to have the keyboard fold to the back of the device but whatever lol.

Apologies, I got the 12.9” as the 11” is far too small. I tried out the 11-inch in store, but it wasn’t as loud or large enough to do the work I would you use it for.
What makes it great is the more secure Face-ID, smaller bezels than the gen 1-2s. It is much faster, has USB-c, better screen, better way to link and charge Apple Pencil.
This is (IMO) the iPad that can replace a laptop for more people than last years ever could.

The new iPad has it’s brightness, LCD tech, colors, and sound that destroy the MBP, MB, MBA. Not because the speakers are louder (they are even) but the iPad has much better tech in them (x4 subwoofers, x4 tweeters) making it an excellent sound and video editing device (of course not having an Aux output is a drag, but USB-C makes up for that)

I’m only sad the price is $150 more, it should have only gotten a $50-79 increase. But once you have it and use it for more than five minutes you see just how capable and incredible it is compared to the last generations.

I got the 12.9, and really like it. I like having the bigger screen to do art. I gave my 92 year old mom my first generation 12.9 iPad Pro. She loves it. Funny thing though, my sister who thought a bigger iPad was too big is using it when my mom isn’t even though she has an iPad of her own. Too funny. I saw her working a jigsaw puzzle on it. Get what you want not what people tell you. You are the one that will be using it. Everyone has different opinions. Mine is that I really like the 12.9.

I ditched the MacBook for a 12.9” iPad Pro which is a significant upgrade to my old ‘the new ipad” 3rd generation device and I’m loving it soo far.

Current set up is an iMac on my desk alongside a gaming PC in a triple monitor config and the iPad for on the go. I was considering replacing the iMac with a new mini sharing the PC’s I/O but the price isn’t worth the replacement at the moment.

I’m still annoyed at apple killing aperture, I’d love to see them bring it back as an iPad app with the same tools as the desktop app complete with extensions.

I'm glad to hear that you are delighted with your purchase... enjoy!

But I am curious about the comment I bolded. None of the things that you listed about what makes this 3rd gen Pro great advances the platform to more of a laptop replacement than its predecessors.

I had new iPads every year from the start, up to the 2015 12.9 inch pro. The 2018 12.9 pro replaced that for me, and I agree with this sentiment.

I used my iPads I thought quite a bit but this one I have been using way more. I haven’t even been on our desktop since getting it. Part of it may be I got the ASK, but for whatever reason the screen just feels so much better (brighter, either actually or because the lack of bezels make it seem as such), the speed is noticeable, I actually use the split window view now because there is less of a delay in using it, battery life has been outstanding (although maybe the battery on my 2015 being so old/less capacity because of age impacts this perception?), and I’m sure shiny new toy syndrome.

But for those reasons and others, I agree this is the best iOS device I’ve had, including all my phones over the years and my second Apple Watch.

I agree with this, so much so that I am strongly considering downgrading to 64 GB + not using Pencil + selling off my Apple TV 4K too alongside the iPad Pro 2017 for the 2018

I can't stop using my new 12.9". It's kinda ridiculous. The huge display in a smaller package is killer.

That being said, it really needs that iOS 13 update to take it to the next level for professional use. There were rumors earlier this year about how they were planning to do a lot more UI and feature updates to the iPad to make it more advanced but they decided to cut those back to focus on stability and performance. So I fully expect to see some big changes come WWDC 2019. The training wheels are coming off!

I don't want to come off sounding like a pest, but you're still saying the same thing as your previous post.

The inclusion of USB-C in its limited capabilities doesn't move the ball closer to being a laptop replacement than last year's model. The performance boost, while great, again, doesn't make it more of a replacement.

I think that there is the POTENTIAL for it to be closer to a laptop replacement for some if Apple were to "open up" what the USB-C port can do. But at this point in time, it's just a form-factor shift from the lightning connector.

It's okay though, we just have different perspectives.

I AM glad to see you got one this go-round. I remember how challenging it was for you to hold out for these new models.

I’m really loving the 12.9 I picked up too with the reduced size it puts it right in the size range I needed it to be. Overall though it just seems like a great refinement, the faceID is great, the bezels look nice, I really enjoy the gestures over the home button, I already enjoy just having to have one charger for the MBP and the ipad and it will be nice to share adapters, the pencil has much better charging and storage. Seems like they really got a lot of things right and I’m really enjoying using it.

I'm really liking my switch to the 12.9 3rd gen. from my 10.5. I've got to force myself to use my iMac 27" . I do agree with those that have pointed out that the hardware has a lot more potential over the current iOS. The real biggie, also as others have said, is why no USB-C to external storage? It the iPad Pro is really "Pro" then give the platform what it needs
