I have a 12.9" iPad Pro that I've had since new, always sat softly on a desk where I double checked my work as I work on an iMac. Never abused, looks like it did when brand new.

Watching iTunes movies on it one day the screen just went black. I could still hear the movie playing on my airpods, just the screen was black- no lines, no flickers, nothing. It was plugged in, charging, but was at least 30% charged at the time.

I've did every vol up/vol down/hold top button reset version that I could find online, still nothing. Sometimes while clicking the buttons randomly I can hear it takes a screen grab by the shutter sound.

I can't find anything about this on these forums (which are my go-to pages when I have a question about anything Apple.) Other things on other pages and YouTube talk about different massaging techniques and button pushing and resets, all of which I have tried.

Do any Apple locations open up devices on site while you wait? What kind of solutions would people here suggest? This is the first time I've ever had an issue with such a new device, and I can't remember if my iPad has un-backed-up stuff on it and I can't check because of the screen.

Thanks in advance!

They won't open your device. They may try to do some diagnostics but don't expect much - it sounds like a repair/replace.

Same thing happened to me. But the simple solution was to using some case cover to shut the screen and open again. Screen reappeared.

Oh wow... I don't have one, but I'll get one online and try that- that's something I haven't tried, and it didn't even cross my mind. Thank you!

you could try pushing the power button and volume button. Even though you can’t see the screen, just swipe across the top portion where the power slider (would) be. Then turn the unit back on as normal. i haven’t done it that way yet, but I’m 99% sure that would work as well.

My iPad magnetic case arrived today, and closing it with that did not resolve the issue... Does anyone know the best place to take an iPad Pro 2018 3rd Gen to be opened and looked at? Is there anywhere better/cheaper than Apple?

The screen is likely disconnected some how, since it seems to work except that it doesn't light up; everything else seems to work if you can guess where to tap the screen. Just stopped lighting up in the middle of watching an iTunes movie.

Damn. Sorry about this. I thought it would work. I would look at Yelp and check for reviews of local repair centers with good reviews. They can probably give you an estimate at the very least.
