Okay, we all know how iOS updates impact battery life. It has been happening since the first version of iOS on every iOS device, ever, and I have no hope of it ever not happening.

That said, I would like to know to what degree it has been impacted. I don’t know many people with iPads (much less newer iPads), so my access to any iPad for testing is non-existent. I want to know whether it improved, or if it is still the same.

The iPhone from the same year (the Xʀ) is pathetic on iOS 15 and 16, with the vast majority of users reporting 8 and 6 hours of screen-on time, respectively. I’m getting 11-12 hours of heavy use on iOS 12 and 16 hours of light use.

I’ve been able to test one iPad recently (that has been updated), my 9.7-inch iPad Pro, which went from 13-14 hours of screen-on time with light use on iOS 9 to barely scraping 8-10 after Apple forced it to iOS 12. I now have an iPad Air 5 on its original version of iPadOS (15), so I can’t test anything myself.

If you can provide a screenshot and describe your usage pattern, better! Thank you!

iPadOS 15.7 is running smoothly on my iPP M1 11”. Battery life is also very good, not really counting, but I charge once a week and very tiny battery drop during sleep.

Despite claims to the contrary,I experience a remarkable reduction in battery life on my apple devices whenever the august announcements are made.

The only device that was not affected was the first retina display iPad.
My iPP 12.9 gen2 has always had slightly better battery life and better resistance to battery deterioration compared to the Gen 3.

I have a 3rd generation iPad Pro 11 inch running iPadOS 16, use it mainly for everything, for my job, since I refuse to use the office provided microsoft crap, and personal use and I get all day use out of it. However, although I am technically at work for 8 hours, I barely actually put 4 hours into the job, and then use the iPad Pro for about another 2 hours in the evenings and have only seen the battery drop to less than 68 percent once since I got it about 2 and a half weeks ago, and I am using the magic keyboard with it as well. I am quite impressed with the performance of the iPad Pro 3rd generation with the m1 chip, not only speed, but battery life as well. I also was using an iPhone XR on iOS 16 and it still had basically all day battery life, being around 18% by 1 or 2 am when I would usually go to bed and plug the devices in to recharge. Kinda thinking about doing an experiment with the iPad Pro and not charge it after using it all day for like a total of 5 or 6 hours of screen time, where it would still be around 75% and see if it can make it thru 2 days of use.
