need a larger Ipad pro for work, going to buy refurbished. Gazelle as older A9X models for $569 Apple sells newer A10x chip refurbished for $679 is the A10 that much better than A9 chip?

Well, I think that price difference is justified alone just for the fact that it's Apple Refurb which is almost new quality and has a warranty. Gazella is simply used.

The A10X has a considerable jump in single core performance, but the real feat is the much much higher multicore. Honestly, in most tasks the difference will be subtle, but I always go for the faster chip. Also the A10X is 1.5 years newer than the A9X so hopefully it will have more of a priority in Apple's eyes in terms of optimization.

If it were me, I wouldn’t know what to decide. There is a $110 difference between the two, and you didn’t say if you also needed/wanted the Apple Pencil or the keyboard case, which would consume that difference if you went with the A9X. Likewise, you didn’t mention if you have any gaming needs that would necessitate the second core bump. Without that info I would just flip a coin.

Not sure I notice any difference. Moved from 12.9 G1 to 10.5. Yes I prefer the G2 but mostly because I changed size, performance seems the same to me, but then I don't stress it with games and video.

Given the choice however, would go for later chip.

No you wouldn't, just for the fact that's it's 1 newer generation is more than enough to justify the 110 dollars without knowing any other information. Longer support from Apple and better cpu that's also ensures a longer lifespan.

i just bought a refurb iPad Pro 12.9" and I LOVE IT! it was hard on my $1000/mo income but it’s the best $800 I will spend this decade! And I’m adding $100 in the price for a Magic Pen. Maybe I will add the keyboard in a few months but for now my Logitech Bluetooth keyboard works flawlessly as usual with Macs of all varieties. But I spent the extra for 256GB and I would highly advise the same, 512 if you can afford it. This device will be good for at least 4 years before being outdated. because that’s how far ahead of the competition it is!
