iPad Pro iPad Pro as companion to the new 14 or 16 MBP

Then it has to be the 11” inch iPad right? I had the last 12.9 and sold it for the m1 but now undecided on 11 or 12.9 - I’ve had 2 m1 12.9 and both had dead pixels. I imagine with supply issues there’s probably less concern about QA. The first 11 lte I got was perfect screen.

my experience with the 12.9 was that it was a good all rounder as a laptop replacement but it just didn’t do the on the bed or in the house tablet duties well. Maybe I’m answering my own question it seems like the 11 is the perfect companion for a 14 or 16 inch mbp when those hopefully come out later this year. Is anyone planning to have both the new mbp and 12.9 ipp? If so what’s the use case? Seems redundant and heavy to have both in a travel bag or even edc?

I have a 2019 MacBook Pro and a 2021 12.9 iPad Pro. I had the 11 inch before. I really love the 12.9, but I’ve found that the 11 is a overall better companion for the MacBook Pro (except maybe for Sidecar which is much better on the bigger iPad because of the screen estate). With an 11, you have best of computer experience and best of tablet experience without having a too cumbersome iPad (which is more of a laptop replacement than laptop complement).

With the 12.9 (and Magic Keyboard), I leave my MBP at home more frequently when on the go, both because of the overall weight and the redundancy of my devices. With the 11, I was more often taking both on the road. But, it will still be an heavy setup for portable devices

I will say the 11" iPad Pro makes for a better companion device. It's smaller (so more portable and easier to hold in the hand), and so will be more convenient to use in situations where a laptop form factor is less conducive (such as on the sofa, or seated on the bus etc).

I see the 12.9" iPad Pro as more of a laptop replacement (ie: get it only if you intend to use it in place of your laptop, or have work that you do exclusively on it like drawing or photo editing).

Yeah 11 inch makes the most sense

I plan to get 14 or 16 inch and think will be better combo with my 11 inch.

I see it a little differently. I have the 2019 16” MacBook Pro that, due to the changes of the last year, I now rarely take out of the house. So, my 2021 IPP 12.9” has become my local travel computer since its much smaller and lighter than the MBP. It’s all relative.

However, to the OP‘s point, I DID keep my old 10.5 iPad Pro, which I use for relaxing and reading — the 12.9 is a bit too hefty for this purpose.

I’ve used my 11” IPP for a few weeks but so far have managed to make it my Batman ? and my 2017 12” MB it’s Robin?, for the occasional rogue task I perhaps cannot manage on the iPad. Getting away with using 11” IPP as my main machine has been nothing short of sublime as I can use it for both work and play! My MacBook was purely a work machine and didn’t find myself using it for much beyond that. Plus, there is the added benefit of having the option to personally sign documents and perhaps in the future have clients sign their own documents and email/text it back to them to lower my paper use footprint. ♻️?
