iPad Pro iPad Pro - Audio Editing

Hello all,

Searched the forum but did not find much information on audio editing on an iPad. I am looking to purchase an iPad Pro soon and often times I have to do some editing on audio tracks (basic stuff for the most part, such as fade in/out, combine multiple tracks into one file, adjust dBs, etc).

For those of you doing similar tasks, are you able to accomplish this using just your iPad Pro? I would assume garageband on the iPad would be able to do all this quite easily, but importing/exporting files and saving is where I am not sure how it will work. (perhaps iOS 11 will resolve some of this as well).

My workflow on my Macbook Pro / iMac looks similar to this:

1. Download either free tracks or have mp3 files given to me to work with
2. Create folder for project on desktop with subfolders for keeping things organized
3. Open Garageband, then drag and drop mp3 files from above into program
4. Manipulate tracks / perform edits
5. Share --> Export to desktop and save into dedicated project folder
6. Upload files to either google drive, send to a flash drive, or email tracks as required.

Any thoughts / advice would be much appreciated!

You had me until you mentioned multitrack editing. I've been using Twisted Wave even before my iPad Pro. I use Audition on my iMac and needed something to do minor editing of audio files, like sound effects or voiceover auditions, and Twisted Wave does that for me. I also use my Dropbox as the conduit between iMac and iPad Pro.

Garageband for iOS may be just what you need. Sorry I'm not more help.

Thanks for the reply, I will look up Twisted Wave and see how it works. Can you save / export files directly to dropbox from this app?

I do agree, I think Garageband will work just fine on the iPad for what I am trying to accomplish. I just dont know from a file saving perspective how it would work.

I am not buying an iPad simply to do audio editing, but rather curious if it was a possible task to do. For the most part, I would consider my needs very basic overall.
 
You want to get an app called Documents by Readdle. It allows you to connect to any cloud service or FTP site and will allow you to export files to this app from any app as it is listed on the share sheet menu in each app once you install it.

So for example, you could export your edited files from Garage Band to Documents, and then upload them to whichever service you wish. Going the other way, you can download an unedited file from any cloud service or FTP site to Documents, and then open that file using any app such as Garage Band.

It's a really handy file manager tool, and also allows you to view/play most of your usual file types.

Hmm very interesting, I will have to check out this app on my regular ipad and see how it works. Thanks for the advice! Hopefully iOS 11 will have this same functionality with the files app.
 
My main reason for getting the large iPad Pro 12 lte model was to edit audio.

1. Auria Pro
2. Cubasis

In that order.

World class apps. I have both of them and they are choice!

Audio units is supported as well.

There are many more audio apps. This site is not really a good site to talk about music apps.

Check out https://forum.audiob.us/ if you want to speak with audio minded people who use iOS for music production.

Yes. The options I see are to export to iTunes File Sharing, Send by Mail, Mail a Link, Send Message, FTP/SFTP Upload, Send to Dropbox, Send to Box.com, Send to SoundCloud, New Document, Open in..., Document Picker...

I've always selected the folder path in Dropbox and then Upload. Works like a champ for me.

Yes, not a whole lot of info on macrumors. Thanks for the help, I am not really doing full on music production, just simple edits. But I will definitely check out the other forum as well and see what information they have!
