I hadn’t backed up my iPad Pro to my PC since November, so I commenced a backup yesterday.

It’s been over 24 hours, and it’s still not done. Should I cancel and start again?

The blue progress bar is fullly...progressed. But the progress wheel spins on...

I would really rather not buy iCloud storage, but I will if I really have to.

iPad Pro 2017 12.9 256GB, iPadOS 14.2

Windows 10 Pro Version 10.0.19041 Buld 19041

iTunes Version 12.11.0.26

Please do not say “Get a Mac” as this is not helpful :)

Thanks!

Why do you dislike it?
It’s too proprietary and I have found it to be unreliable.

I already have 1TB in OneDrive, where I can store everything. But of course it’s not possible to do a full backup on OneDrive, meaning a backup which I can restore from in the event of an iPad crash.

I’d reach out to Apple support - so far no useful posts in here.

Does iTunes indicate that the backup completed when you check in the settings?

Either way, it should not take a day. Make sure the port you’re using is fast enough too.

there
I used iTunes through Windows 10 Dell XPS to back up my iPad all of 2019 without any problems.
in your case, you might have to restart itunes or install a driver (through itunes) to backup your ipad.
i can try to see if i can back up my ipad to the dell xps now if you need more info
just let me know.

Same here - works fine to my Win10 XPS-13 and a Win10 desktop. Not super fast but it does work in a reasonable amount of time (several minutes for backup sized 18GB at finish). Might be worth a reinstall of iTunes.

Thanks for your responses, appreciate it.

It was plugged in to a USB hub, so that may have slowed it down. This is Lightning as well. I gather that USB-C would be faster?

I’ll make sure I plug directly into the fastest port on the PC.

Meanwhile I paid my AU$4.50 for iCloud, and that backed up in a few hours. My private health cover will have to wait a bit longer 😂

I don't have any USB-C Apple devices either but my USB-Lightning backups take much quicker than 24 hours. I've never really timed them but it seems most of my backups are done in an hour, often less.

Mind, all my computers are on SSD as main drive which is significantly faster than HDD at handling thousands and thousands of small files.
