I experience pretty poor battery life on my 12.9” iPad Pro (latest model) and I think it is due to the keyboard case. I bought the keyboard to type on, but also to use as my case so taking it out of the keyboard to save battery would not be ideal.

As an example, my battery drains anywhere from 6-8% overnight and when using the iPad for just basic web browsing and twitter, I am getting somewhere in the 5-6 hour range of consecutive usage. Honestly, seems no better than a regular PC and one of the main reasons I’ve always gone the iPad route was due to the battery life.

So main question- is this normal for others who also have the larger Pro model with the official keyboard?

You may have some app running in the background that consumes more power than usual. You can check that in the Battery options. I am using the same 12.9" iPad Pro with the Apple Smart Keyboard and have seen no difference in power consumption with or without the keyboard. Also, my iPad hardly uses any power when not in active use, although some reduction in battery charge is normal as it will still check for e-mails, messages and so on.
I think the Keyboard uses very little power (certainly not as much as the Pencil), although it's always possible that you have a faulty iPad or Keyboard, of course.
