After my first full charge I wanted to test battery life, so I didn't charge it the next night. When it was at 9% battery, I had used it for 7 1/2 hours. This extrapolates to 8 1/3 hours to an empty battery. It was not quite bed time of the second day. The lion's share of usage was on the Amazon Video app. I turn the screen up pretty bright to watch video.

After the next full charge I again used it until it was near empty. It was at around 10% near the end of the second day of use of that charge cycle, and it had been in use 10 1/4 hours. This extrapolates to 11 1/3 hours to empty battery. During that charge cycle the lion's share of the usage had been on the Kindle app. I turn the screen brightness down for reading.

Of course, a bright screen will deplete the battery faster, and perhaps (?) active use of Wi-Fi also depletes it faster? I have Wi-Fi on all the time, and I have Bluetooth off. I have background app refresh off for most apps, but on for a few.

The next few days I plugged it in every night because I figured I had the results of my test, but yesterday after just 4 1/2 hours of use the battery was down to 33%. That extrapolates to just 6 3/4 hours to empty battery. Curiously, I'd been using the Kindle app more than the Amazon Video app.

I'm okay with this because I'm never going to use it more than 6 hours in a day, and I plug it in every night unless I'm conducting a battery-life test. But it does seem a bit low. Apple says "Up to 10 hours of surfing the web on Wi‑Fi, watching video, or listening to music." Clever of them to give a maximum, rather than a minimum. That way it sounds as though they're saying something useful when they're really not. I still love the iPad Pro. But as a believer in information, I figure people should know this stuff.

Mine is the 128 GB Wi-Fi only.

Perhaps folks would like to share their experience of battery life, or tips to extend it.

I've seen mostly good reports on the Pro's battery life here. If you get more 6-7 hour averages, I would take it in to the Apple Store to be tested. With my Air 2, I've found brightness around 30-40% really extends battery (10-12 hours is my average with lots of video and web browsing), and since I usually use my iPad indoors, these levels are still quite comfortable and not a compromise in any way. I would imagine with the Pro display being so large, screen brightness would impact the battery even more.

If people report longer battery life than I'm getting, I probably will have it tested. However, it could just be screen brightness. I like a bright screen for video, and 6 hours gives me a full day of use when I'm using it very heavily (because it's still a very new toy.) Plugging it in every night is not a problem, and thanks to the longer cord I can plug it in anywhere I use it.

Actually, I'd accept a significantly shorter batter life if the trade-off was less weight. So my own tests have ranged from 8 hours to 12 (extrapolated to empty). If the iPad Pro weighed one pound or less, I'd accept a battery range of 5 hours to 7 1/2 hours. As it is, I think Apple found an excellent compromise of weight to battery life, but since weight is one of my biggest concerns for a "mobile" device, I'd have been happy with shorter life and less battery. As it is, I might not take the Pro with me when I travel, due to its weight.

I'd love to see how much time others are getting.

Extrapolating time based on pockets of usage can be inaccurate, but I can tell you from experience that my iPad can easily get me into the 10 hours of active use range (more or less depending on what I'm doing and where). I have, for example, gotten around 12 hours of use with power to spare when I used it mostly indoors for web surfing or Office apps all day, with the brightness at around 25% or less throughout the entire time. Yesterday it dropped a lot faster because I was in a car all day and the brightness levels were fighting the sun. I was also using my Pencil a lot because I'm trying to decide which Notes app I want to use at work.

Give it a few more days of use to see how it holds up, but if it's struggling to get to 10 hours consistently I would exchange it, as that seems to be an outlier.

Your 10 to 12 hours at 25% brightness may well be in line with my 6 to 7 hours at 75% brightness. I'm happy to plug it in every night if it means I can watch movies nice and bright.

I may have it checked out when I go in on Tuesday for a Mac seminar ("workshop"). But I am at a loss to imagine what sort of defect could cause reduced battery life. My preference for a bright screen seems the more likely explanation.

I wonder if there's some sort of standardized home test for battery life that would not depend on my arbitrary settings.

I need some help. I continue to have issues with YouTube. The app sucks battery, even though the iPad is in airplane mode. If you look at the screenshot you see how much it works in the background. Doing what??? Last night I put it to sleep, today after a workday it lost about 20-25% battery. The fix is to simply turnoff the background app refresh. Therefore my 2 questions: 1)Is it a pure software/app issue or could it be that something is wrong with my hardware (you would think that the iPad tells the app to should up and stop trying)? 2) Is there any reason forYouTube to refresh in the background (if I turn it off, what would I loose)? Btw, I reinstalled iOS, but YouTube is still causing the same issues. Thank you advance.
