My wife's macbook from around 9 years is dead. I have a 4 year old macbook pro. We are going to buy the iPad pro with the magic keyboard.

Should we buy the 128gb one or the 256gb one?

We are going to go for the white iPad and the white magic keyboard - anything I need to know?

Thanks

Check how many media related subscription do you have. Many? Go for 128GB. Not many? Consider 256GB.
There is only one exception: if you have any plan to take lots of 4K video, 256GB is a must, or you may need to buy 1TB model.

How much storage to buy depends on how it will be used. As a guideline, what was the storage on her Macbook and how much of that did she use, and same with yours? Do you have a lot of photos and videos? Will it be used as a personal consumption device or professionally as well?

Also there are only silver and space gray iPad Pros, not white. The Magic Keyboard can become scuffed, so some users prefer to put a skin on it (from brands like D-Brand, Sopiguard, Decal Girl, other companies depending on where you live).

I don't believe the streaming services allow for 4K downloads. Just 1080p HDR at best. 4K is usually limited to streaming only.

4K videos taken with one's own camera, guess it depends if you need it local or if it can stay on iCloud.

iPad Pro 12.9 is already a costly device, so if 100$ can give you peace of mind with double the storage and you plan to keep it for long time, then it makes sense to invest the 100$.

If its just casual browsing and handful of apps then yes base 128GB will also serve you best.

Yep. The $100 to go 256GB now is much cheaper than replacing the iPad altogether because storage is too small.

What are you going to use the iPad for? While it can replace a laptop for some uses. It's not a total replacement. You could just get a Macbook Air. Unless you think you'll have more uses for the tablet form factor and apps not yet available to the Macbook.

Also for most uses. An iPad Air is all most people need. Heck, most people are perfectly fine with a regular iPad. Unless there is some specific need for the Pro model. You may be just as happy with a cheaper option.

While it's faster and has more RAM. It may not have any better longevity than an iPad Air. As Apple could limit OS support life to the same time frame as lesser models.

As for storage. I'd look at how much space all your files currently take on your Mac and iCloud storage size (assuming you have an iPhone). If everything on iCloud isn't on your Mac. Then double it if you want to store everything on the iPad and have room to grow.

I have a ton of apps but keep most of my storage in iCloud files. However, I did get the 256 just to be sure. My last iPad was 5 years old and still going strong with my granddaughter.

Go with 256 if you are keeping the iPad for long time. Extra storage will give you peace of mind.
