iPad Pro charging slowly

Hey everyone. My wife’s iPad Pro 12.9 has started charging really slowly. She uses a 28w brick and a lightning to usbc cable. Usually it’s very fast but even overnight it only 80% after a full 8 hours of charging. Any thoughts? The cable does have some cracks near the lighting port end but otherwise appears to be in good shape. I’m a perfectionist when it comes to cables and even I would let it get a bit worse before I traded it in based on what I see. Any thoughts? Is it possible the cable is bad? It is plugged into a power strip but that hasn’t been causing issues in the past to my knowledge. Thanks in advance!

Certainly try a new cable. The little computer in the cable may have been damaged and it is only sending power at the lowest settings.

I too am experiencing same issue on my iPad Pro 12.9”. I called Apple support twice and all they did was tell me this is normal that the iPad is designed to protect the battery. Doesn’t make sense to me.

Ok. Couple updates. First. She has two 29w blocks. One for a MacBook and one for her iPad. We swapped the blocks and her iPad started charging fast. So we went to Best Buy to get a new one and possibly a new cord. When we explained what was going on the Best Buy staff said the 29w block could have hurt the iPad battery and that was the issue. He said it may have created a new max charge limit on the iPad battery by charging it up too fast. This seems odd but I’m coming here to ask in case that’s a thing.

I'm totally confused. My MBP has an 87w usb-c power adapter. It will not plug into my iPad Pro. My iPad Pro has a 12w usb adapter with a lightning cable, it will not plug into my MBP.

Even my little MacBook Air has a magsafe 85w power adapter.

Yes, you can purchase a 29w usb power adapter to fast charge your iPad Pro with iOS 11, but you would need to purchase a new usb c to lightning cable.

Seems like a lot of effort went into plugging things in just about every configuration you could think of.

Nothing is broken. Another Apple genius bites the dust with their lies. Why can't they just sometimes say, "I don't know, let me ask someone that does."; and that person be truthful as well?

The iPad Pro 12.9 can use the 29w adapter, the exact same adapter that your 2015 macbook uses. By using the 29w charger your iPP will charge significantly faster than with the original 12w adapter.

Thank you for confirming. Yes it’s an add combo but we bought it specifically for this. The 29w is paired with a usbc to lighting cable for fast charging. Honestly, Apple including the 12w with a 13” iPad is a slap in the face to everybody that bought one. It takes ages to charge like that and if your using it plugged in you can still watch the battery % drop like a rock.

The 29w is certainly the better route. The device will fast charge to 80% then slow to a trickle charge to prevent overheating / yada / yada / and other bad stuff.
