Hello... So I bought the iPad Pro 2020 12.9 with the Magic Keyboard, figuring it would be a nice light addition to my workflow as I constantly use iPad for university, but also been carrying around a pc whenever I go somewhere as I need to import a lot of photos and videos etc.
With the iPad, I could finally leave the PC at home... Or so I thought!

I have a Panasonic G80 / G85 (MFT camera) that I usually bring with me on holidays and outings, and I usually import all the photos and videos daily to my PC whenever there’s downtime to then throw on a external hdd (LaCie Rugged 2TB).
I only brought my iPad instead of the laptop while on a vacation to Lithuania this summer, and it ended up making all kinds of weird lines and glitches in both my photos and videos from the trip.

About 24 seconds in, you can see what I’m talking about in the video:
Photo example: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1WPtVKQqJYUszOHOphut3-ePFWU7q1L9n/view?usp=

After this trip, I tried formatting the iPad and then making sure it was on the latest version, I tried importing to the iPad ONLY, and not to the external HDD after, but it still happened. I even watched over the imporing to make sure the iPad didnt get to fall asleep before it was 100% done importing...

Any suggestions to fix this, or even where the fault may be?

I’m using a USB-C SD card reader that has never failed me when used on my PC.

Thanks for any suggestions.

How are you doing the import? The Files app can corrupt files from/to exFAT-formatted media -

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/file-corruption-on-copy-to-external-storage.2235171/

When working with any exFAT media - including my cameras' SD cards - I have quit using any native app and use a 3rd party file manager - FileBrowser in my case but others are available.
I don’t like that it corrupts files. When working with photo or video, I just import straight into the photos app.

Yep, still stresses me out this still happens on the OS14.
FileBrowser app has been great for me, but I‘d like to be able to depend on Files app as it looks better, operates better and seamlessly working with the whole OS workflow with other apps.

And sadly those who uses their iPads for non heavy media files processing like we do, never really aware of this issue and says the Files app is working flawlessly.

This and the non expanding external monitor supports that’s been making me wanting to go back to my MacBook Pro.

Thanks for all the feedback. Didn’t know this was a known issue, as I tried doing some google search before asking for help, but with no prevail. I guess I just suck at googling!
How such a problem exists in a iPad that is supposed to be able to «replace your laptop» is beyond me.
Thanks again :)
You all recommend to buy the FileBrowser app? It’s like 8-10 USD or so

FileBrowser has certainly worked well for me, fully supplanting the Files app which I have shunted off to a hold/unused folder. I keep Files solely for testing purposes.

If you're going to buy the app I would just spend little more now and get the business edition.

I have both versions because business one wasn't available while back. At least bundle price was little cheaper than buying business separately since I already owned the regular version.

Same here. Originally, only the Business version supported attached external storage but it was added to the standard. I like the file synch capability in Business.

I got it mainly for direct access to the iXpand drive, but SharePoint access and syncing is nice.

About 24 seconds in, you can see what I’m....

from personal experience: lock the SD-card with the original footage/pictures so any app can only read read from it when directly connected to the iPad. For copying a lot and/or large files it seems to be better to copy in groups, rule-of-thumb here: <= 50 RAW photos or ~2 Gb. At the moment (iPadOS 14.01) it is better avoid Apple’s Files app altogether - use a wireless SD-Card reader or FilebrowserGO/Bussiness.

It is even worse, when you want to copy things back FROM your iPad TO directly connected external media. And: DO NOT WORK ON ANY EXTERNAL MEDIA WHICH ARE NOT WRITE-PROTECTED!
