iPad Pro iPad pro - External Drive + Charge at the Same Time?

I have a portable external hard drive that I want to use with my iPad Pro, but it drains the iPad battery. Will the following adapter allow me to browse the hard drive and keep the iPad powered at the same time?

Yes, but you might check out USB-C hubs that do the same but for much less. I use this one and it works great (plus it has a USB-C data port) for only $28 -

Is that adapter just as reliable as Apple's own adapter? I have had a less than ideal experience with 3rd-party adapters like the one you mentioned.

100% reliable for me, 2018 12.9 Pro. Anker is a solid brand. I also have the Apple adapter but never use it - this one is more versatile.
