I would be actively working on my iPad and listening to music or other audio when it would happen. So it has nothing to do with sleep. And audio WAS playing when it occurred. For me at least it happens when I am actively using my iPad and suddenly no network; even though WiFi icon shows full bars. Unplug 10 seconds and network returns. Reconnect and continue working using headphones until it occurs again. Usually every 2 to 4 hours of use.

So out of these 3 only (1) is correct for me.

I’d be interested in seeing if you can try to narrow down the exact conditions it happens under. It should be repeatable.

I listen via the headphone adapter or a usb dac all day at work and those conditions have been totally repeatable for me. I can listen for hours with no loss, but if I pause the music to talk to a colleague I’m guaranteed to lose it if the iPad locks on its own.

I can no longer test as I returned my 11” iPad before the 14 days was up and picked up a 10.5. I love my 10.5 and especially it’s glorious, wonderful headphone jack! In all honesty; there are numerous reasons I prefer the solid reliable 10.5 over the pretty but clearly rushed 11”.

Apple has replied my bug report. It's asking me to provide what I am going to mention in the quote below. Since I don't have any of the new iPADs I can't do what they want, but if anyone here wants to contribute please do ASAP so I can send them the logs. Post yours in Google Drive/Dropbox or anywhere else and them here in this thread, so I can download and send to them for further checking.

Wow, I'm glad I remembered this thread. I bought the Apple headphone adapter and played an offline game on my IPP for an hour tonight wearing headphones. When I was done I unplugged the headphones but left the dongle in. I was perplexed why I had no connectivity but my other wifi devices did (even after powering off/on). I actually remembered this thread and unplugged the dongle and my connectivity was restored.

Here is the support thread about this issue: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8623623?answerId=34175381022#34175381022

I’m seriously considering returning my iPad over this.
In my case if I have any accessory plugged into my usb c port and the iPad goes to sleep I lose Wi-Fi or cell connectivity.

I have to unplug the hub or keyboard. Connect to the internet by checking mail or loading a web page and then plug the device back in.
My solution so far is to set the device to lock after 10 min which basically means the iPad is on all day. So far that’s been okay but it’s a really annoying bug.

Mac Rumors never responded back to my email when I first alerted them to the tip.

It’s a real issue, causing some to return the iPad.

Apple knows about it, but hasn’t issued any statement or response.

12.1.1 does not fix the WiFi drop out issue.

Thus far I am having the opposite experience.

Installed and tested for the last 40 minutes or so. The issue seems to be fixed as far as I can tell. iPad can now go to sleep with my DAC attached but not playing any music and I do not seem to lose network connectivity. Hopefully others can verify soon.

I tested a few differnt options as well.

At first everything seemed fine, I killed all apps and put the iPad to sleep. WiFi remained connected.

Then the last test I played a game for about 15 minutes then put the iPad to sleep for 15 minutes. I could not connect to the internet until I unplugged the dongle.

Proof will be in the pudding when I’m back at work tomorrow as I’m listening to the iPad on and off all day. I run into this bug probably 5-10 times daily. In the last hour of the workday on 12.1.1 I could not reproduce it any longer. Perhaps there are multiple sorts of triggers?

More data this morning. I now agree that the problem still exists. If the iPad locks for a short period of time, I retain network connectivity. If I step away for a longer period of time it is still gone. I can't say for sure if this is different behavior than before or no change.

I’m thinking no change. I don’t feel this fixed anything nor did Apple address the issue.

It may have been too late seeing they have been working on the 12.1.1 beta before the pros were released.

I’m still having the same issues as well. I was hopeful that 12.1.1 fixed this issue. I have zero connectivity issues while using my AirPods. Once I use the headphone adapter I start losing WiFi and cellular connectivity. It even happens to me without the iPad (new 12.9) going to sleep. Turning airplane mode off and on doesn’t reconnect me. It requires turning the iPad completely off and back on to reconnect. The ONLY time I’ve had these issues is when using Apples USB-C to 3.5 headphone adapter.

if its a deal breaker, return it!!

definitely dont wait for Apple to acknowledge it / they might not be able to.

If they fix it, and its documented fixed, you can always rebuy the hardware

Has this been fixed yet ? Still deciding to buy a new iPad.

Wondering as well. Not buying the converter till I am 100% sure.

Nevertheless, I highly doubt 12.1.2 will be fixing this issue as it was mainly released to tackle e.g. the 4g issues with iPhones (introduced with 12.1.1).

Just wonder that using the usb c headphone will produce the problem or not?

Was wondering the same thing when I first saw this topic and planned to buy an iPad. Unfortunately, the answer is YES. :(

I currently have the new iPad Pro (12.9 inch), but waiting for a fix before buying either the converter or a new headset.
