I have my iPad Pro connected to my Mac Studio and System Information says the speed is using USB speeds up to 10 Gbps.

iPad Pro and Mac Studio have very fast internal SSD with both supporting Thunderbolt, using a Thunderbolt 4 cable. Is this really the case?

Yes. Not sure if it can be "turned on" to Thunderbolt speeds, but right now, it is currently neutered.

Search this forum for threads with "Thunderbolt" in the title for more on this.

I mean, you are certainly lucky that it even connects to the Big Mac with a thunderbolt cable.
In my experience with a 14 inch mbp and a 12.9 m1 iPad it refuses to recognize the iPad if it is connected via Thunderbolt 4 cable, or a usb4 cable. If I connect the iPad via a usb 3.1 cable, it defaults to USB 2.0 speeds (480 Mbps).
The only way for me to connect it at a higher than usb 2.0 speed is via a usb 3.0 A to C cable connected through a dock where it defaults to standard usb 3.0 speed (5 Gbps)
Its maddening tbh

Odd. I use a Belkin Thundebolt 3 cable normally, which works great, but I have gotten TB4 cables to work too, like from my OWC docks.

Just discovered this to be true in my case as well when connecting my iPad 11" M1 to my new 14" MBP M1 using Apple's TB3 cable. However, I'm able to connect the same iPad to my older Mac Mini M1 using the same TB3 cable, but speed is only up to 10 Gb/s. WTF, Apple needs to get their crap together.

Fun stuff right?
USB 3.1 speeds of 10 Gb/s is fine for me overall for backing up my iPad to my laptop every once in a while, but it is not advertised connection speeds and Apple doesn't acknowledge the problem at all.

Yeah, 10 Gb/s is adequate but doesn’t even work on my new 14”. Losing faith in Apple product everyday.
