I have done some searching on this but have not as yet been able to find and answer.

I have an iPhone 6s but this is on O2 and is my works contracted phone. I can not change this contract or have the watch add on option enabled.

I also have an iPad Pro LTE which currently has a data only contract with EE for 4gb per month.

Would there be an option to upgrade my iPad EE data only SIM to a data, calls, sms SIM same as that which is usually used in a phone and then pair this with the Apple Watch?

I could temporarily put the new iPad EE SIM in my iPhone to create the activation and pairing, then transfer it to my iPad. I realise that I would have 2 different numbers for the watch and the phone and also that the iPad can not make calls.

Does any body know if this work around might do the job?

Thanks

Update

I called EE and upgraded my iPad data only sim for a mobile phone variety for £21 giving 20gb. I then asked EE to enable to Apple Watch plan which is £5 per month but first 6 months free.

I swapped my work phone sim for the newly upgraded EE sim and enabled data plan on my watch. Job done!

Not quite

I put then took the EE sim out of the phone and placed it back into the iPad. Still all good as the watch was still showing the data plan being paired and available

I put my original work sim back into my phone and turned on. All good until I rechecked my watch, the data plan ahead been removed.

So despite having a valid EE sim and watch contract, and pairing successfully, as soon as you put the original non EE sim back in the phone, the data for the watch becomes unpaired automatically

The good news is I can cancel the contract upgrades so no harm done.

Such a shame this did not work. It looked like it was going to work right up to the last swap.

That would maybe work, if successful you may end up with a different number added to your iMessages (The number associated with your iPad cellular service) also when calling out would be that number also as some number sync feature is added to your iPhone line to sync that number to the watch number which is how the same number as your iPhone is able to work.
