Hello everyone,
I would like to know if some have such a similar problem with the stage manager feature on the external monitor. When it came out, everything worked fine for me. I used a USBC hub with my IPad Pro M1 and connected to my Smart TV with the HDMI cable. Now nothing works at all. The picture on the IPad is simply mirrored on the TV. The "Arrangement" interaction has also disappeared. Any solution? Or its a bug? By the way.. the IPadOS version is up to date (16.5) and My TV is capable of displaying 4K resolution and can also display 1920x1080 resolution.

And stage manager is on. Hmm. Sounds like you’ve trouble shot quite a bit. Did it stop working after the last apple update possibly? I know in the past updates have broken certain things for me

Just to test it out with my M1 12.9 on 16.5, I connected to an LG 4K monitor via HDMI and an Anker USB-C hub and Stage Manager is working fine. I’m using a Logitech MX Master 3 Bluetooth mouse. I usually do a direct connect with a USB-C to DisplayPort cable but I want to give the hub a try.

Yes, that was also the case for me. With iPados 16 version everything worked fine. With 16.2 to 16.5, my iPad doesn't seem to recognize my Smart TV resolution anymore, even when Stage Manager is on. It may be that it is due to my USB-C hub ore HDMI 4k cable. I will try a direct cable USB-C to HDMI 4K without USB-C HUB. Let's see..

I used another HDMI cable that is UHD-4K capable and connected in USB-C and directly to the iPad and TV. It also does not work…:(

Do you have any other displays you could try it out on? Have you restarted the iPad again?
All failing that - apple support app, see if they have any ideas.

Hope you get it working soon!

Yes. Several times. Plug in, plug out, on, and off again. I have already contacted Apple support, so a bug is not known according to them. I don't have other monitors available, but even if I did and it worked with others, it's a shame I can't use it on my TV anymore. It's either the cable, the USB-C hub, or more likely the smart TV, although I didn't have those issues at first. Some think it could be the HDCP handshake, and that's why it doesn't work or my iPad doesn't recognize my TV properly. According to Apple support, there have been a few cases reported of TVs and monitors that meet the 1920x1080 resolution requirement (the minimum requirements for Stage Manager on an external monitor) but don't work with the current version of Stage Manager. Well, I certainly won't be buying a new TV, whatever. Just a pity...😅

thanks! I hope as well

I have a 15” portable monitor which has a resolution of 1080p. Previously, it worked fine with stage manager and external extended display with an M1 iPad Pro.

Now, however, when I attempt to use it, I get display mirroring only, and the monitor is not set to 1080p, but 1440x900. If I use my M1 MacBook Air with Ventura, it *also* now defaults to 1440x900. I can, however, reset it in MacOS X to 1080p. Interestingly, if I use an Intel MacBook with Ventura, this monitor is detected as 1080p by default.

In trying to diagnose this problem, I found posts on the apple support forums that 1080p is an undocumented minimum resolution for stage manager external extended display support.

My guess is that something about how the M1 GPU driver is detecting *some* monitors now finds a default below that 1080p threshold and, because of how iPadOS works, there is no way to change that.

It’s hard to say if this is actually a bug, or a feature from Apple’s POV. It seems clear that this is a software issue, but exactly what about these monitors triggers this behavior is unclear.

It might be an incompatibility with that particular TV. I checked on mine (4k) and it worked instantly just like it does on the regular monitor, and offers me the arrangement function as well.
