Hi Guys !

is it only me that I feel so ? Or it is indeed a case in reality ? Everytime I lay my hands on the iPad Pro Magic Keyboard and when I type on the black keyboard and then when I type on the white keyboard which was just recently released a couple of months back by Apple. I feel the key travel on the white is more deep and smooth as compared to the Black. And the white keyboard feels more fluid and smooth. is that indeed the case ? or it could be just a placebo effect that I may be having ?

Should not be any difference. Where are you using them? Same place, side-by-side?

I have this keyboard with my 11" iPad Pro and for my uses the keyboard is very good. No issues.

I am trying them in the Apple Store.
If there is a difference then the specialists in the store should be able to tell you. No reason for them to withhold any information that might help you make a decision.

But if one feels better to you than another, then get that one! Even if it is imaginary, nothing wrong with that, really, Get the one that you will be happier with.

It could be the age of the keyboard and the use that it has had - if they have both been on display since their respective launches, the black one has been there longer (albeit with a holiday due to lockdown.)

Excellent point. Black is what they've offered since it was first introduced, so the display model may actually have received lots of use. The white is practically brand new. If there is any degradation as the keyboard is used, then it may be something you could feel (if you're sensitive enough to such things, which the OP apparently is).

I actually own the latest version of the both the 12.9 black and white keyboards (same age). The white keyboard definitely feels a lot better for both keystrokes and trackpad click feel. Might be tolerance related differences or that the newer model has (very) minor tweaks.

I have both. My 11 is white my 12.9 Black. They feel the same. One thing I will mention… I HATE the white, sorry I bought it. It is functionally the same as the black but just not happy with the color. It is very hard to keep it clean. There is no difference between the two.

This is fun.

So, let's summarize:

. . . No real difference . . .

. . . The white keyboard definitely feels a lot better . . .

The white looks nice but I think it would get dirty quickly.

. . . my white one actually looks pristine after all these months while the black one show dirt and grime way more easily.

And there you have it!

I own the white magic keyboard and I can confirm the keys feel smooth, deep and amazing.

I haven’t tried the black keyboard.

I’ve seen multiple YouTube videos where in side-by-side comparisons the host mentions that they think the white keyboard feels better. My conclusion would be that the white keyboard is actually slightly different.

To chime in on the cleaning issue: it’s not an issue. The white has stayed looking just as new since my day 1 purchase. I do clean it frequently with a damp towel.

In comparison my old grey Smart Keyboard folio always looked dirty.

I’m pretty sure the white keyboard actually shows less grime, dirt and also less wear and tear than the black keyboard does.

I have the white and it’s still very clean. I love it - reminds me of the old white MacBooks.
It’s a misconception that white gets dirty - white emits light which makes grease and oil harder to see. Same is true for pearl white cars.

I can highly recommend the white Magic Keyboard however don’t have first hand experience with the black. It’s possible that the materials very slightly which gives the different feeling.

I have both, black for my Air 4 and white for my 12.9 Pro. I agree with your breakdown but it might also be because my black one is smaller

I’ve tried both with my iPad Pro 12.9 and they feel about the same.

Personally, I’m probably going to keep the white keyboard and return the black one - the black keyboard shows smudges, glossy grease marks, dust etc. so much easier than the white one, especially on the keycaps themselves. I don’t really want to be constantly wiping the keyboard down to keep it looking nice. ? Plus, the white keyboard just looks nicer to me when paired with my silver iPad.
