I would be surprised. You will likely fill the iPad with books and even if they are picture heavy, 128 Gb should be sufficient. No need for large dataset and complex software that takes up large of space in med school as I see it.

Wouldn’t os 16 take a lot of space in the long run ? I don’t want to be left out this will be my device for the long run ?

The OS is not taking that much space in each iteration. I am not in med school but I have an iPad filled with Photos, music, many documents and books and apps, and I am not even at half of the storage capacity of my 128GB iPad Pro. Except if you manage some heavy files or have many photos or videos on your iPad, you should be fine. It takes a lot of PDFs, notes or ebooks to fill 128 GB. But of course, you have nothing to lose to buy an iPad with more storage, I just don't think you'll take advantage of it that much

If you need to do any illustrations (I kinda doubt it if you're in medical school unless it's a hobby or doing anatomical drawings) then perhaps going with more storage (~256 GB) would be helpful but I don't see a reason 128 GB would be limiting.

I want to say yes just due to the amount of storage that is used on my 256gb IPad Pro. I think I am using 45% just on books, medical apps, and lectures. I could use the cloud for all these things but I like to have them on hand if I do not have internet access, which is in most rounding hospital. If you do upgrade I suggest the 12 inch just for the epic screen to use with the Complete Anatomy app that most schools give you a discount on. Helped me very much during anatomy. Hope this helps!

To the OP: Are you still in college/university or have you been admitted to medical school and will be starting it soon? Your question didn't really make that clear. If you're still in college/university now with a year or more to go at this point, probably what you have now will suffice until graduation, and then when admitted to medical school you should receive a list of items and devices and their specs recommended by the med school so that you can plan and purchase accordingly before beginning your program there.

Hi OP! I'm in medical school and 128 GB is more than enough space for your needs in medical school. I probably have like 8 GB in Anki at a given point, quite a few eBooks, and a lot of data on Notability but it isn't even close to using 128 GB.

Apparently half the responses in here have never had the use case you’re describing. I have. 128 GB is NOT sufficient if it will be your primary source for books and videos. Medical apps are getting bigger with newer OS iterations and the ability to record lectures, scan paperwork/homework, and the massive digital library youll probably need on the go or shared between both devices will no doubt push your iPad storage to the limit. I stored tons of uni books and resource material on my iPad. Tons of lectures from my uni and other lectures from different schools of same subject to get added perspective. The iPad is the most versatile of the two devices. MacBook great for the usual software but the medical apps available for iPad and convenience of studying on the go with iPad is 2nd to none. More storage is my experience. Wound up using just over 300GB myself.

Ah it’s always good to see someone with real world experience.

OP, besides the above good advice, wouldn’t you 1) just need to keep an eye on your free storage and then just get a new device when required and 2) even then still have the ability to offload items to the cloud?

Pretty sweeping! Did you read the other comments?! See samples below.

Agreed!

Others with medical school experience believe 128GB would be fine.

In any case, if the 128GB proves to be tight, just upgrade later when you are in medical school, and can figure out what you need. If you have to get a new iPad later, it will be more powerful, with a better screen, and the space you the need. It'll be the best iPad Apple's ever made! 😎

Once you get into med school, you can talk with “seniors” and “residents” and get their immediate first-hand advice!

In the meantime, the voting is 4 to 1 that 128GB will work fine!

You already have a top of the line iPad and an advanced MacBook Pro, and that MBP with a huge amount of space. Keep in mind that the 11.9” may be hard to fit into a medical jacket… many doctors prefer an iPad Mini. You may discover that you'll do much of your “homework” and studying on the MBP, your iPad in class, and want something smaller for your rounds.

and...............................................................just as I stated, I use a 128 (and if you are in medicine you will know the task if not.. then... okay - obviously, most is stored on the cloud these days! LOL!!!

If you record lectures and have lots of vidoes, sure you can fill anything up. Did you ever delete old videos after the respective exam?

Would 128GB be ok if not i will buy more storage ?
Keep the iPad you have now. If it becomes insufficient, buy a new one if and when needed. No point in buying one now -- new models are anticipated soon and you may even get two or more years out of the one you have. Transferring all your data is simple, so there should be no issue in waiting to upgrade until you know for certain you need more.
