iPad Pro iPad Pro new device scratch?

Hi Guys.

I have purchased a sealed, new iPad Pro 12.9 on eBay.

Immediately after unpacking i noticed 2 2 Problems. One on the display (difficult to see), but you can feel it.

And one directly on the back.

What is the situation with an exchange in this case?

Probably best to reach out to the seller on eBay seeing as that's where you purchased it. Were those issues noted on the listing when you bought it? What was the "Condition" noted as?
 
It could be - although rare - that it was shipped from Apple like this. In that case, one should get it exchanged at the Apple store. Not sure however if you need a receipt and if you've got one.

I would take it to Apple and plead your case. I'm assuming you've looked up the serial number and have seen that it has a valid purchase date. The problem with buying off of eBay is that you don't know when the seller purchased the item and when things like this happen it puts the buyer in a tough spot.

Its worth taking it to Apple (take the box and everything) and tell them what happened. They might allow an exchange of the iPad.

Edit: After looking at the pictures the one on the back is pretty bad. Was the iPad packaged on the inside correctly (was the iPad in its plastic wrap?). The reason I'm asking is that people will reseal boxes in plastic wrap and list them as new, then put the onus on the seller to deal with any problems it has. I don't think that is what happened here, but it's possible. Does the seller have good feedback?

Contact the seller and tell them what happened and you would like to return for an exchange or refund
 
Honestly I’d ask for a partial refund, and see if he will give some money back to you. That is really minor in the photos. And I’m sure it is not all that bad right?
 
Yeah you can reseal these boxes. If they are an Apple Authorized Reseller you could take into the Apple store and tell them your problem. idk if they will replace it cause its cosmetic. But contact the seller on Ebay.
 
"New In Box" selling on eBay is always suspicious for a new device like this. I'd almost think it's hot or maybe the user re-sealed it after damaging it. I've had items come damaged from apple, but nowhere near the degree the OP posted. Best bet is fight to get it returned. Apple will probably turn him away as he has neither the Origional receipt and a 3rd party had possession of the device between the two of them. Up hill battle to say the least. Good luck.

Check the activation date with apple, if before the date you purchased you can claim for a refund through PayPal as a confirmed reseal is not as described.
[doublepost=1550071256][/doublepost]The scratches don't need to be part of any claim if it's a reseal, in fact the seller could refuse return as "you" damaged it. (You didn't, but PayPal don't know that.
 
If it was listed as New and the seller accepts returns, just return it to them for a full refund. Or message them and see what they say - worst-case is that Paypal should cover you.

No point going to Apple though as they didn’t sell it to you so won’t do anything and don’t have to.

That couldn't be farther from the truth. eBay is a great place for buying and selling items, and in the 10 years I've been buying and selling I have had 2 experiences that I would say weren't great, but they ended up find because eBay took care of them.
 
I also suspect seller resealing. Apple is meticulous with their products (new and refurbished). Obvious and severe scratches of this kind would be unheard of to get past Apple quality control.

Perhaps in your case. In my case it has been an absolute nightmare situation. In the early days long before you were a member (middle to late 90's) Ebay was an awesome place. You could clear out your garage and make some nice cash - speaking of cash - PayPal ruined the whole experience. When Ebay started - you could send cash or checks to people and everyone was honest - never had a bad experience - until PayPal arrived. They would mysteriously monitor your account and if you made too much $$$, they would flag it as suspicious and freeze your funds. I had over $8000 frozen in 1998 that I have yet to get back.

So your idea that it's a great place couldn't be farther from the truth - in my case. And I am sure I'm not alone.

Speaking of dishonest people. I can go way back to the early 90's when there were only bulletin boards to sell things. You had no idea of who the other person was except by name and address. I remember selling a new digital cell phone for $1100 and the guy sent me the funds in the mail. I reciprocated by shipping overnight mail. Everyone was honest - then.

Oh wow, that is awful. Yeah, thats before my time in dealing with them. I do admit PayPal has also been a hassle for me at times but overall I don’t mind using ebay when I want to sell something. I haven’t had an issue with people scamming me outside of a couple of instances but I do know it happens from time to time. And the fees they charge now are a little ridiculous.

I didn’t mean to discount what you said and I’m sorry your experience has been so terrible. Losing that amount of money is horrible and I’m really sorry that happened to you.

Not really. They’ve had these types of issues before and one scratch out of millions of iPads wouldn’t be out of the norm. Remember the iPhone 5’s that we’re shipping with chips in the finish? I do think this case is extreme but sometimes slip ups happen in QC.

Disagree. This is such a sloppy anomaly not in one but multiple areas of the device, no way this is an Apple manufacture fault.

I also have a small scratch on the exact same place of the bezel but it's near the corner of the left bottom speaker btw I also have a very very small dent on the bezel. You need to run your nails in order to feel it and I suffer from OCD, LOL. I bought it from an apple authorised reseller but there is no replacement policy in India as we don't have any apple store so I am living with it. But its not a deal breaker and yes these things are possible from Apple as well. Hell when devices are coming bent out of the box I consider mine not to be a problem at all.

We can disagree then. Apple isn't perfect and has had more than their share of QC issues pop up lately.

What is the seller's rating and feedback like? What is their selling history, what items have they sold in the past? That might help determine if it was resealed or truly an out-of-the-box defect.

The challenge is, there is no way for you to prove to the seller that it did indeed arrive in that condition. Here is where YOUR eBay history can help.

That’s sweet luck and great for you. Of course anything that’s produced in the millions by hand assembly can have issues. The great thing about the Apple Stores is that we can easily return items there without a hassle.

Are these scratches on the front on the aluminum body or isn’t the glass cut properly?
