Hi there

After I deleted my back ups and briefly disabled iCloud back-ups to free up space and also disabling Photos/ Videos being backed up I re-enabled it. I only wanted it to back up my iPad Pro system settings, account and some apps. The estimated back up size said it would be about 256mb and I had almost empty 5gb iCloud.

Previously it backed up no problem. But now when I re-enabled iCloud back-ups it just doesn‘t back up any longer. First it said it couldn‘t because not enough free storage available (which is not true) and now it just seems to hang up.

Any idea how to fix this?

Tried all of the above. Still doesn‘t work. This is so strange. Worst case: Is it possible to back up the iPad Pro to external drive? I don‘t have a Mac anymore to back up to iTunes.

This is so shady. I really believe Apple is trying to get more people to buy iCloud subscription.

I have nearly 5gb free space on iCloud and the backup says it's only 230mb now but yet it can't back up because apparently I have not enough space and should buy iCloud subscription. WTF

My current gen 12.9 has stopped backing up via iCloud also. Last backup was 10/26/2019. Thats the same date that I upgraded my iCloud storage and added my wife to the family plan.

I've restarted the iPad. I've signed out and back into iCloud on the iPad. I've even tried to force the backup. Nothing has fixed my issues.

Even more strange, my iPhone is NOT having the issues. It continues to back up at night when on wifi and charging.

Yea. Logging out and back in to iCloud helps a lot of things.

Unfortunately that didn't correct it for me.
