I may be a bit late here, but I’ve noticed that after charging the iPad Pro over night, that it reached full charge fairly quickly using its 18W brick & its USB-C to Lightning cable...

Whereas my iPhone trickle charges over night & waits until just prior to it knowing when I need to use it, to charge fully. This is via a third party wireless charger & its USB to Micro USB cable connected to the Apple 5W brick.

So why doesn’t the iPad have similar Optimised Charging?

I think it depends on when you turn on the device and use it. The battery optimization algorithms can frequently vary.
I think that the iPad has optimized charging, but it shows you that it’s 100%.

Back in August I was on a Apple Support chat and they said that the iPads have optimized battery charging like the iPhones, but no way to turn it off because it doesn’t have a battery health menu.

I just would’ve thought it should’ve learnt by now (after years of use) that I don’t use it during those early hours & would trickle charge it as the iPhone does.

Are you saying the battery charge graph in the settings is inaccurate?

When any battery reaches 100%, it doesn’t stay at 100%. This is to prevent damage. I guess you could call it inaccurate, but I wouldn’t call it that.

It Charges to 100%, then discharges to 85-90%. Then it trickle charges to 100, then the process repeats until you unplug it. This is still shown in the graph as “100%”

It’s really complicated. I’ll try and see if I can link a good youtube video here later.

Ok. I was wondering if ipads had optimized battery charging because my iPad acts like it does, but to an extreme. May there is nothing wrong with my iPad then. I had been working for the Census Bureau for the past couple of months, and my usage on my iPad had been a lot less during that time. Maybe that is why it has been acting really strange charging.

I wish I could turn optimized charging off before I want to use it. It’s super annoying when it stays at 24% for almost a whole day, then very slowly begins to charge.

Why doesn’t Apple state that there is a hidden battery optimization for iPad, or put in an update where we can turn it off before we want to use it?

Did optimizatEd battery charging for iPads start a little over a year ago? That’s when the charging behavior on my iPad changed.
