Hey guys,

Does anyone’s iPad Pro (or any other iPad) consistently show Other System Data using Zero KB (under Settings -> General -> iPad Storage)? After I first got my iPad at the end of August and set it up, it usually showed anywhere between 3GB to 5GB used by Other, which seems to be a normal amount. After 2 or 3 weeks, it went down to 0. Backing up and resetting my iPad appeared to be a temporary fix, though the reading went down permanently to 0 again after another 2 weeks or so, where it’s been at ever since. I’d like to think my iPad runs efficiently, but I’m pretty sure it isn’t that efficient lol.

Could this be an iOS bug where it simply isn’t showing the correct amount of storage used for that category? My new iPhone 12 should be arriving in the mail this coming week so I’ll see if it experiences the same thing after a while.

Yeah, that is probably a bug. Are you running the latest version of iPadOS?

Yeah, I’m currently running 14.1, the latest version of iPadOS. This was actually happening before iPadOS 14 came out. I first inquired about this in the iPad Pro shipping thread about a month ago and believe @DiamondarBoss was having the same issue, but just wondering how widespread it is or if anyone might know more about it.

It’s a bug, not an issue. I wouldn’t worry.

Yeah, it doesn’t impact the performance of my iPad in any way so I’m not really worried about it, unless you’re close to filling up the storage on your iPad where it might start to pose a problem I guess. Was just curious about it more than anything lol.

Kind of the same on my iPhone XR running 14.1. I have not done anything different other than a regular update. I reset the device and restored from iCloud backup and it didn’t fix it.

I think it’s likely an iOS/iPadOS issue then. Will see if my new iPhone 12 also shows it over the next few weeks. Hopefully Apple is aware of it and they will push out a fix.

why is my other system data 17Gb?!
There's an apparent bug in iOS 15 where the OS does not report these sizes correctly.

For example, in my case, the other system data is well over 60 GB because this includes some application caches. Overcast, the podcasts app, for example, claims to use around 4 GB of space itself in the app but this is not reported in the storage usage under its heading so I assume this is all under other system data. I also have over 30 GB of databases for DEVONthink on one of my iPads and this storage use also does not show under the app itself but contributes to "other system data". On my other iPad everything is reported correctly.

The point is, at least part of that storage use in your case is app storage usage being incorrectly reported by iOS 15.
