I’m not sure if this is an issue or not. If it is, I hope someone can offer a solution. When I am typing a word and notice a misspelling, if I backspace to delete the incorrect letters, usually the correctly spelled word will appear in the predictive text area at the top of the keyboard. If I then select that word, it will not replace the incorrect word with the correct word; it does nothing at all. On the other hand, if I type the first couple of letters of a word and the word I’m looking for appears in the predictive text area and I select it, it places the correct word in the proper place. It only happens if I backspace to delete letters and then try to select the correct word. It works fine with my iPhone. Is this normal? If not, has anyone else noticed this and found a solution? I hope what I’m asking makes sense. ?

Does it happen in all apps that accept typing? I ask, because on this forum, if I don’t reply in text mode instead of the rich text editor, all kinds of wonky things happen with autocorrect and predictive text.

Yes. It doesn’t matter which app I’m using. It also happens on this site, not using an app, just the safari website on my iPad. Kinda frustrating.

Yep, VERY annoying. Been happening for a long time, I think since this new IOS keyboard was introduced.

Oh & it’s even worse with auto-correct enabled as after you finish typing the rest of the word correctly, auto-correct thinks you meant something else...

from moving from android to all apple and windows pc, I have to say the predictive text and autocorrect is extremely broken, Android honestly does this a lot better

I’ve had issues (iPad Pro) with this for a long time and always thought I was doing something ‘wrong’ or ‘missing’ something. Other long periods of time...all is well. Have never really figured it out nor seen mention on the Apple forums.

Curious. It works fine for me. iPad Pro 2018.
I’m using the 2018 iPad Pro also & I’ve had this issue for as long as I can remember.

Try typing the word “example”, but deliberately spell it wrong by typing “examd”, then delete the d & then select the predictive text above the keyboard & tell me if it types the word “example” out in full.

Exactly! Very aggravating, because it doesn’t do this on my iPhone.

Yeah you’re right - it doesn’t do it on my iPhone!

I thought it may have had something to do with the shrunken keyboard of the iPhone, but when I shrunk the iPad’s keyboard, the bug still occurred...

Btw, I really wish the iPads had a ‘medium’ sized keyboard that you could swipe type on as the shrunk size is too small imo & also has missing keys like Enter in certain Apps...& the press & hold touchpad feature covers too little an area to cover the screen size of the iPad!

OMG, this thread! ??

Anyone send a screen recording to Apple?

Also, I think this same bug is involved in the issue where correcting a misspelled word actually prompts iPad OS to add a new word onto the end of the word you’re trying to correct. Like, WTF? How do you screw this up?
