Hey all, right about that time again!

If pre-orders open up next week, I will be getting one - in the past, have you guys rushed to add your accessories alongside your iPad pre-order when checking out, or have you gotten the iPad first and then added those things later in a separate order?

I'm hoping pre-orders will be smooth this year, although seems tight for the 12.9 going in (no idea if I want the bigger size/mini-LED or the regular Pro).

Usually Apple does a short up-sale on the accessories so if you already know what you want it will present you with the option. When I last pre-ordered my iPad that's what I did, but that was the 10.5" which was in much better supply than it seems the 12.9" will be this time around. My plan is to just get it ordered, and pickup a cheap Folio after the fact - Amazon knock off or Open Box somewhere - until I can get the Magic Keyboard. I ordered a Keyboard but ended up returning it on the rumors that there will be a new one and the old Magic Keyboard will not work with the new 12.9".

iPad first, accessories later. The longer you wait, the longer you'll have to... well... wait for the iPad to be delivered.

usually iPad launch are not as 'tight' as iPhones, but i always get my iPad first and then the accessories.

last year when iPad 2020 launched, the smart keyboard was not immediately available at the same time, so there was no such problem anyway. not sure about the situation this year.

also, apple is somewhat good at managing expectation and go beyond. so if your order is not on the launch day but the next batch, there's good chance apple will deliver early. though there has not been a global chip shortage.

As mentioned, iPads usually have much lower demand than iPhones. I've never really bought accessories at the time of iPad purchase but that's because I'm not interested.

If you're getting AC+ though, you might need to purchase the accessories at the same time as the iPad to have them covered.

I don’t think that’s the case any more. I actually specially read the verbiage of the AppleCare+ for iPad Terms of Service and it seems that, so long as the purchase of the accessory was for the device (applying to Keyboard and Pencil accessories only, and not regular cases it seems) it would be covered for 1 year or the remaining term of the AppleCare Protection Plan, which ever is longer. So if you buy a Magic Keyboard 6 months later and have AC+ on your iPad it *sounds* to me like it would be covered until the iPad isn’t. I remember the verbiage used to be very specific that it had to be bought in the same transaction but it seems Apple dropped that requirement.

Vegas, baby!
Is there an best interface to use? Website on Safari, the Apple app? iPhone, iPad or Mac?

I just went thru the gaming console fiasco and there were definitely advantages/disadvantages to using apps vs. websites.
