Bought a new 12,9 inch ipad pro 3 weeks ago, new one just got announced. Classic question, should I resell my ipad and get the new one?

If you have no specific reason for upgrading then you're most likely fine with what you got.

If I were you, I would check with an Apple Store or call over the phone (if you bought it from Apple directly) but ask if they would allow you to swap it for the new model (you just you pay a difference if there is one.) Sometimes (sometimes, not often) Apple may do that, depends on the manager.
Sometimes even Best Buy has done crazy exchanges similar, ( I work at best buy and have seen it is possible) again if you purchased it from there is the only way... but If that doesn't work, doing a FB ad or asking friends and family if they'd be interested sometimes may work in your favor in terms of a good return, (has for me.) Listing it on Ebay or Craig's-list may work (i have found it doesn't always get a good return.)
But either way, the 1st gen iPad Pro is still amazingly brilliant and faster than any other tablet, and if it works for you and you like it, then stick with it, you won't be disspointed in the slightest. And especially if you purchased the iPP at a good sale discount. :)

But the second gen iPP will be better, (just from the sound of it and the leaked geekbench specs it sounds amazing.) It's more powerful in single and multi-core speed/power than a late 2016 13" MBP with an i7... and is comparable in single core to a 15" MBP from 2016 (also running a 6th gen i7.) It's not completely equal in the multi-core with the 15" MBP, (but it comes really, really close.)
It's the most powerful and advanced tablet available (and will be for years to come.)
So... IMO, I would say the upgrade would absolutely be worth it because you just barely bought the one you have. But good luck with whatever you decide, I hope it all works out mate. :)

Kallum.

if you can return it and get it then try as while the features don't seem groundbreaking the speed, true tone and the scrolling for one you would see a difference. that said the first gen is still an amazing device

Thanks for the answers :) My concerns were mostly as a web designer and designer in general. It seems like it's quicker with the pencil and better colors. I'm in France with no physical apple store near me, I guess I could try apple customer support online

Still check if a return or swap is possible and explain the situation... Apple has some of the best, top-notch customer service for a reason.

If I were in your position, I would put some effort in to try to get it swapped for the new one. 120 Hz screen and the faster processor makes it worth it. I don't know about in France, but a lot of the decent/good credit cards in the US would allow you to return your current one. Then just buy the new one.

I would think that if they can upsell you from a refurb to a brand new more expensive option, they will. That being said, I'm not sure exactly how returns work for refurbs.

Chances are, they will let you switch. Apple stores are really good about this, their online support likely is as well.
