I’m not sure if this is normal, but I’m seeing these darker areas on the screen of my new iPad Pro.

I noticed them as I was setting up when the screen was white — expect, it wasn’t completely white as these dark areas stood out. What do you think?

I've got an 11 Pro 2020, mine doesn't exhibit anything like it. Might be a faulty LCD.

That looks like an uneven backlight. It probably isn't faulty.

I have the same problem with iPad Pro 12.9", it's uneven backlighting. On my end it developed after 3 years of usage, was much better first year when I bought it. That's definitely a defect, all iPads usually degrade over time. But I don't think Apple will ever admit it as a defect. You can try though, good luck!

Thanks to you and the others that responded. I just purchased it, so returning wouldn’t be a problem. My 2014 Air 2 looks and performs the same today as it did back then — definitely more even backlighting.

I’m not knocking Apple — I can’t imagine what goes into producing these devices. Maybe their switch to miniLED will fix this?

Looks uneven. It is definitely a defect and probably Apple’s quality control is degrading.
I say this because I have been using iPad Air 2 since 2014 to date and have not faced any such issues.

Deciding to upgrade, I purchased 2021 3rd Gen iPad Pro 11” 256 GB WiFi only device. It was delivered on Oct 8 and after setup I immediately noticed that the screen (held on potrait mode) appeared noticeably darker along the entire length of the right edge. iPads costs are exuberantly high here in India, so i ordered a replacement.

I got the replacement on Oct 21. I have been using it for four days now and there isn’t any significant darker areas. However, I have noticed the top left corner and bottom right corner appears slightly dimmer. I’m not sure about going for another replacement as it is like playing a game of chance.

I guess this issue is common and plaguing many customers. The only sad thing is Apple not delivering quality product inspite of premium price tags. It is a rip off. I think I will stop purchasing Apple products in the future.
