Hi

Currently, I am using the 2020 12.9 IPP with the corresponding magic keyboard. The dilemna I face, is ease of holding vs ease of vision.

I find the larger iPad much Bessie to view, given my vision, but harder to hold, given the weight of the magic keyboard, when using it in bed, which is most of the time.

I rarely take it outside our home.

My options are iPad 11 Pro

Keeping the 12.9 Pro and removing it from the MK, if not typing very much.

Using it with the virtual keyboard and the Smart folio, when in bed.

Ease of vision vs ease of holding is my issue.

thanks

Pinch to Zoom. For me, “easier to see” was one of the reasons I used the 12.9 for so many years. But when I switched to 11” (to help with comfort/portability) I found out that going smaller didnt affect ease of vision at all because its a touchscreen so if I couldn’t see then just pinch to zoom. So now prefer 11” because its more balanced to me.

I’d stick with the 12.9” - maybe put it into a case like this. With the hinged lid you can set the iPad at various angles that makes it far less of a burden to deal with since you can prop it in your lap or set it on a table or on the bed.

12.9 since October 2019. Today I will receive the 11 pro 2020 for my girlfriend and I will evaluate better it. Maybe in the future a little bit of more everyday portability could be an idea, but in this moment I’m fitting well with 12.9

You should stick with your 12.9" iPad Pro for now.

Order an 11” and test it during the return period. Then go from there.

I would buy and switch to the smart keyboard, it's still quite a bit lighter than the MK and not that much heavier than the folio and allows to type pretty well... And use the MK when weight does not matter...

I've had this issue since the first iPad. The 12.9" is a bit too heavy but the screen is awesome. The iPad (and the Air and the Mini) are a joy to handle, but the screen pales in comparison. So it is a compromise. I have rocked the 12.9 for the last few years, and am about to pull the trigger on the new one. My wife owns the smaller Pro. I handle hers and mine, and I can see the appeal of the smaller one, but I always end up preferring the larger screen for when I am home. I also own a Mini which I was supposed to carry with me, but I am fine with my iPhone when I am out and about. It all depends on your use cases and your own personal preference. There is no one best answer. It depends on you, your budget, and your preference. It is great to have choices.

Budget is not really the issue. I hardly ever take the iPad out. I mainly usr it in bed and occasionally at the desk or dining room table. I am a poor typist, but still find the magic KB easier than the virtual, for anything of length.

I could not use the folio keyboard. I could not see the keys. There were no lighted keys.

what about taking the iPad off the Magic Keyboard when I don’t need to type. Has anyone removed cut and used it “naked” in bed. I also have thr smart folio, if that would help and make sense.

How much typing are you doing in bed? The one-handed virtual keyboard with swipe is super easy and fast to type on. I do all my typing with one thumb swiping.

Very little typing in bed. Some with texts or short emails.
