The connector seems loose and it only charges in a particular position. I’ve had this before but usually it was related to lint which I managed to get out, but the port doesn’t seem to have any to my eyes? I’ve tried carefully scraping the sides and nothing is coming out.

Does it look damaged in any way?

To my untrained eye this looks ok. Have you by chance tried another cable?

Yep - every cable has the problem, and the same cables work fine with my iPhone. It’s my sons iPad and the outside is certainly dirty but as you can see the inside looks fine, strange

Maybe the inside is dirty as well. There might not be any visible debris in there but maybe the contacts need a clean? I wouldn't know the best way to do that though.

Thanks for your reply, yeah I think I’ll have to give that a go with some isopropyl alcohol!

Just to let you guys I discovered I had 2 days left of my warranty (I was convinced I bought it well over a year ago!) so I made an impromptu Genius Bar appointment, and they identified the pins in the side of the port were damaged - but they gave me a replacement!
