Hi,
I want to buy a iPad Pro(2021) but I can't decide to take the 128gb model or 256gb.
I will be taking a lot of notes ,reading PDF documents for my university.
I will be editing sometimes videos and photos.
However , I do not know how much handwritten notes taken with apps like OneNote or GoodNote can be in size. Of course I won't store offline copies of all notes I will write in the next 5 years, but most probably I will need the most recent (6 months) with me.
So I need your help.
Thank u.

First of you shouldn’t consider keeping your notes just on the iPad. At least sync with iCloud or even creating a real periodical backup copy of relevant material on iCloud Drive is highly recommended.

Written that: using Live Text on a photo of lecture notes on a board and extracting the text and/or figures as well converting your handwritten notes to documents of editable text with hand drawn figures keeps documents small.

Depending on your study subjects ebooks (PDF, ePub,..) can reach a few hundred Mb in size.

But what will eat your available space are videos and photos (depending on the source and format of both) and offline music.
I personally use Samsung’s T5 and/or T7 to keep a backup of all my photos (keeping only “the essentials” on the iPP) and to edit videos directly on it. FileBrowser Pro (or Go), as well as LumaFusion for any video related stuff, are IMHO two of the essential apps you have to get.

I use a 2020 iPP with 128 Gb and a 2021 iPP with 256 Gb and use both primarily for university work (neuroscience/biomedical engineering- not much video editing or keeping a lot of videos on them) having more storage on device eases my mind when creating or collecting presentations or e.g editing high resolution micrographs, but in principle the 128 is more than sufficient.

I think there isn’t much more to add to what @Slartibart already wrote. For pure note taking both storage sizes will get you a lot of use, but it’s the additional media like videos and potential other apps that might eat more of the storage at some stage.

What use case did you have in mind when you bought this device?

The storage space then might be handy when you want to download lots of movies to the local storage for offline use.

I think your iPad probably has the storage bug. iPadOS + System Data normally takes a good chunk and they're showing 0GB on yours.
