I have the Apple 3.5mm to lightning cable for my AirPods max and I get that it has to take an analog signal and convert to digital. Now for my iPad Pro, I’d need to use the usb-c to 3.5mm adapter and then connect the 3.5mm to lightning cable for wired use, essentially taking digital to analog back to digital.

Now why can’t Apple just let us use a usb-c to lightning cable and connect directly Digital to digital from iPad Pro to AirPods max and bypass the DAC-analog-ADC steps?
