Mind sharing those scenarios?

If you are referring to running smartphone apps that default to portrait orientation (like instagram), one way could be to run them in stage manager mode.

Alternatively, if you find yourself wanting to keep switching modes, the alternative would be to use a stand and wireless keyboard instead.

The scenario could be as simple as reading a pdf or browse photo with portrait mode.

As you said, a stand with a foldable keyboard will be the fit, but not a MK

When viewing the electronic version of my local paper, it no longer supports landscape mode, when using the iPad version of the Wegmans app it too no longer supports landscape mode as well. If I’m using an app that needs to be in portrait mode for basically viewing only I remove the iPad from the Magic Keyboard leaning it against the Magic Keyboard and continuing to view. Since the MK supports charging for the time the iPad spends in this potion that is not a problem (weigh the power cord). Or as you state I use my Apple bluetooth keyboard.
Since I am currently using a LAB22 iPad stand which rotates into portrait or landscape as well as allows for a writing with pencil position I use my Apple Bluetooth keyboard. The stand supports well and allows me to store the keyboard on the base.

Portrait mode seems like. no brainer for reading PDFs and writing documents like scripts or email. I sometimes take notes with my pencil in either mode, but I only read notes I've taken in Noteshelf (2, 3) in portrait mode. The only time I really want it in landscape is if I've made a drawing or diagram that calls for landscape.

So, whereas many apps have great presentation in landscape (Apple News, Music, DaVinci, etc., it's not ideal for everything, and it's a shame the Magic Keyboard is so restrictive. At least Apple gave us a face time camera that doesn't make us look like we're watching TV or solitaire when in a conference call.

I usually just take it off the keyboard for those situations, that’s why I bought the 11”, sometimes I want to use it like a tablet and the 11” size is perfect for that. I use the keyboard for typing and watching movies or videos, other situations I remove it from the keyboard and use it like a tablet. It’s why I’m willing to pay laptop money for an iPad, it’s versatility as Apple describes it.
