My 1st generation 12.9" iPad Pro stops charging after upgrading to iPadOS 16. When I plug it in, it starts charging normally, but then stops after a while, usually when it reaches around 94%, and then displays the text "not charging" where the battery indicator is. It seems like some kind of feature like ‘Optimized Battery Charging’ or ‘Clean Energy Charging’ is active, but AFAIK, neither of these are available on the iPad. Any ideas?

It could just be your battery age.
From the title I was under the impression it wasn't charging at all.

94% doesn't seem like an issue.

I fixed the title. 😀 Whatever the charge holding capacity of the battery, I’ve never owned an iOS device that didn‘t charge to 100%. So this is new.

Not too sure, I havn't taken the leap to 16 yet.

Does your charge level in Settings/Battery say 100% charged....?

I just read about a ‘Charge Management Feature’ that I never heard about before. Could this have something to do with it? https://support.apple.com/en-gu/HT208710
That support document is from iOS11... Id say it's more likely an issue with the charging cable, brick or possibly lint/debris in the lightning port. Try charging it with a known good Apple or MFI certified cable/charging brick and clean the lightning port out with a toothpick followed by dust off or compressed air product..

After a hard reset, the iPad now charges all the way to 100% again. Sorry for not trying that before posting here! 😃
