I use a public hotspot regularly with my iPhone and connect, 'no problem' to the internet, but for the life of me whenever I try to use my iPad Pro it won't connect, I have tried resetting it forgetting the connection and everything. It's not the iPad because I tried today and it connects to my private hotspot on my iPhone. Has anyone any ideas please, I am genuinely at a loss. I notice my mac book air has a similar problem when I try to connect also.

Try opening Safari and maybe that will help it. Sometimes it does that to me when I try to connect my iPhone to wifi in Starbucks. I'm guessing it gets hung up because there are several wifi spots around the store.

I have done that because there is a wifi signal showing but safari sys 'can't open the browser. I think I'll try downloading mother browser see if that does it.
