if getting a new iPad Pro 10.5, is it worth waiting for the iPad x? Will that be more expensive?

It will not be cheaper for sure but likely not that much more expensive.

As far as is it worth waiting for? No one knows.
I think the iPhone X was worth waiting for as that’s better than iPhone 8 in my opinion.

Value is a subjective thing. Like Charlituna noted to another OP in another thread a bunch of us can tell you what we think but ultimately its up to you what value you would get out of upgrading to a Pro now or waiting for the next generation pros.

When rumors of next generation iPad Pros with FaceID started to surface I jumped on a 2017 12.9-inch IPP from my Android tablet and have no regrets - mostly because in the back of my mind I was thinking that I wanted a good ipad now and if I find the new pros too attractive to pass up when they do come out I’ll take the loss on my current device and upgrade if I want to. Expensive proposition for some but again value’s a subjective thing.

Well if you're waiting for the iPad X, you'll have a long wait because it won't be called that. Naming aside, it may be more expensive although it's hard to see it increasing by more than $50, possibly $100. Whether it's worth it or not will depend on whether you want to deal with the possible downsides of the new design (no home button, no Touch ID, and thinner top and bottom bezels). And also whether you need an iPad sooner than September (or possibly October).

Next version is likely to NOT have a home button and more of an edge-to-edge screen. I doubt it will have more RAM, as the current model got a big bump in that area.

I'm happy with my 10.5" IPP, but if you are looking for the above, it might be worth waiting. When it will be released is a good question. I believe the pattern(minus the iPad 4) is 12-18 months. We are 2 days shy of 13 months already. But then this puts it square against new Macs in the Sept-Nov timeframe.

I have no insight, just some basics.

I’m waiting too. Wether it’s worth it to wait is totally up to you however. It’s a question no one else can really answer for you ultimately. I currently use an iPad mini 2 that is literally falling apart. Everyone tells me to just buy now. But I decided it’s worth it to wait. I want to upgrade to a Pro model for drawing & photo & video editing, and want the newest latest tech when I do. So I am waiting. It’s worth it for me to wait. Again, for others it may not be. And nobody knows when the pros will be updated. Some people were expecting it at WWDC, but that didn’t happen. Now some are saying in September alongside the new iPhones. Others are saying Oct/Nov...and still others are predicting in March of 2019 or even June of 2019. That’s a huuuge disparity of opinion.

Big thing for me will be if it as Face ID, it needs to work in landscape. My current IPP 12.9 I use an ASK with it most of the time.

The next iPad iPhone iPod etc will be faster than the previous. The 10.5 IPP is pretty fast compared to the iPad and iPad Mini 4. So its not gonna be a huge jump since this will the 2nd gen 10.5 IPP if they are really bringing a new one out. I like the fingerprint scanner, not sure how this Face ID will work (in the flow of using).

Wait if you like. No harm in that. You could get the current one cheaper. There were a lot of stores that had them in stock and they are still sitting there, like Target and Best Buy. I'm pretty sure they will run a sale before the next release.

I’m curious, is the 2018 budget iPad with pencil support the ONLY hardware Apple has released this year so far? I think so. Either it’s gonna be a huge 2nd half of the year with a ton of announcements...or is gonna go down as one of the slower years for Apple as far as new devices are concerned. Of course we know new iPhones are coming in September. That’s a given. But man, I hope they announce some other new hardware too. In particular, new iPad pros...and hope against hope...an iPad mini update! Heh heh heh

ipad pros are a given, the macbook pros are also, the imac also, the iphones also, and the new apple watch also...so i would say for a company like Apple that doesn't have a million different products...it will be a big/huge 2nd half of the year

Considering that Apple would want to release any new hardware before December & the holiday season, that means all those announcements will happen by November at the latest. So the next four months are going to be very busy indeed! Actually, unless Apple wants to announce something before the back to school rush(July & August), that really only leaves two months really...September - November for all those announcements to happen. Thats a lot to cram into a very short period of time!

Just got me a used 12.9 gen2 (512GB cellular) now because it cost me only about 55% of a new one and I won't loose money If I resell it again for the new IPP's. At the moment I have some fears that they drop the 12.9 altogether for a new single 11"-12" iPP. If that happens I am very happy with my 12.9 and stay with it....(which I might do anyway because the OLED iPad might be the next big thing and that happens earliest at spring 2020)
