Maybe I am not understanding Safari functionality correctly on the iPad.

I am on iPad OS Beta 5. This problem has existed for at least the past two prior betas…

In Safari, if I type a search term into the top URL bar, say, “How many ounces in a Gallon”

A sidebar opens

I submitted feedback to the Apple team on this a month ago and it still hasn’t been fixed.

Now I am wondering if this is just a normal issue of the browser

Can you post a screenshot?

Sure!

Just pretend I posted a search query in that top URL bar. It won’t show the query but it immediately opens up that side bar once I type anything other than a web page address

That screenshot doesn't help anything. Why not post one with a search query?

The problem is, you can’t.

The search query will not stay in the URL bar.

If I begin typing, “how many ounces…”

What happens is that the sentence immediately turns into an existing webpage that you visited and the side bar opens up. It’s a very strange occurrence.

I suppose I am wondering if anyone on PB 4 or 5 gets the same action when typing a sentence query into the URL field.

It doesnt do this on mine. Can you check your settings, I think that may cause this.

Those are my settings verbatim (with the addition of show favorites bar)

So, this is exclusive to my iPad.

Let me see if Adguard is interfering somehow since this is a beta and that app may not be fully compatible and screwing around with any search inquiry I type into the URL bar.

I really appreciate the help. Thanks for taking the time.

For anyone checking back. I found the problem. The spacebar was not working in some applications including the URL field.

After an extensive Google Search I found out that I had to turn this off…
