How good of a device is the iPad if one did not want to subscribe to anything? Are there quality free apps people are finding or free ebooks? I know on my iphone, I haven't bought an app, always the free ones and it works well for me. I'm not against paying but don't want to need to pay alot to enjoy the thing as well...if I ever decide to get one

My fear is the iPad is a money hole in a sense with having to buy everything. Are my fears unfounded?

I always try to avoid the pay apps. I've gotten some nice free ones. I don't mind buying the books, but there are some good free books also.

I've spent around $70 on ipad apps so far, but i usually find myself using safari. I think that safari is by itself an enjoyable experience, but not one enjoyable enough to justify $500. There are plenty of free apps that could make or break this decision for you - just have a look around the app store.

i'm the same way

I have purchased a coupe apps but have about 300 apps total. I was not concerned with this when purchasing the iPad and glad I did. The prior apps still work great (even when viewed with x2; zoom) and there are a good number of good free apps already (and the list will grow I am sure).
