Bought the wife a new iPad 7th Gen. I plan on doing the old to new migration via bluetooth rather than iCloud (we share the same Apple ID...since the first iPhone in 2007...don’t judge, we’re old and didn’t know better).. Anyway, the old iPad (ios 12.4.7) has a damaged power port and it’s real touchy to keep it working. I can almost guarantee that somewhere in the migration process it might switch back and forth between battery and connected power. Would this interrupt the migration process and cause potential problems? If so, do you think I could make it through the migration on battery power alone? TIA for your thoughts. You folks are great.

Perhaps I am wrong. I am referring to the side-by-side wireless migration method. I assumed it used bluetooth.

Unlike iPhones, quick setup/wireless migration for iPads only transfers the small stuff (network settings, etc). It still relies on internet-based iCloud backup for restoring apps and data.

Well, was not expecting that! Why would Apple make the iPhone and iPad processes different? When I got my wife’s new iPhone the quick setup/wireless was elegant and migrated everything. Sure, I had to download my apps but everything else was right there...contacts, messages, photos, etc. The Apple website didn’t indicate a difference between iPhone and iPad. I reckon iCloud is my only option though I wonder if that will be a hot mess as my wife and I share the Apple/iCloud account.
